It was Bronny James’ first NBA interview today. And LeBron James was overjoyed watching his son field all the questions like a champion. After much narrative and storylines surrounding the 19-year-old, the firstborn son of the NBA power couple entered the 2024 NBA Draft Combine. Of course, he must have known what all the questions would be centered around. After all, it has been the topic of much discussion since he returned to the USC Trojans after his health scare.

However, anyone who hoped for some juicy lines from the young guard’s mouth was disappointed. Disappointed in the sense that he set matters straight. Bronny stated that he was excited to be in the league, just like every other basketball player in the Combine. James Jr. also clarified, “Putting that Bronny James narrative out there more instead of just being LeBron James’ son … That’s really important for me,” he stated to the reporters.

Watching their son take on the pointedly troublesome questions in his stride, Bronny’s parents were out of this world with delight. Taking to Instagram to share his admiration for his firstborn, James wrote, “Just simply a great kid!! Proud of you Young [prince emoji inserted]!! Go get whatever that you want! The world is yours,” tagging Bronny at the end.

Savannah James, for her part, kept it simple in her story update. “Just proud,” followed by a holding-back-tears emoji. It wouldn’t be a stretch to assume those two words meant so much more. It hasn’t been that long since the James family went through one of the most difficult times ever.

LeBron James and his family went through the worst nightmare when their firstborn dropped unconscious out of the blue while getting ready for his USC debut. Their darling boy was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. That was what led to the cardiac arrest. The incident happened in July, followed by LeBron’s hints about retirement.

10 months have passed. Throughout this period, the 19-year-old endured everything that nobody should have been subjected to. Yet, he came out of it all stronger than ever, as was seen in his interview. As expected, there were questions about his superstar father’s hope to play with his son. In an unexpected turn of events, Bronny James clarified his stance when asked if he wanted to play with his father. “No, never,” was his answer.

As we saw above, he aims to do what every other hopeful hooper in the Combine wants. To be able to create a narrative for oneself. There is no doubt that his parents and family played a huge role in helping him stay focused on his goal.

After all, Bronny’s father went through it all for his decisions and choices in life. And now, they are proud parents watching their son make a stand for himself, gracefully answering every question, and staying true to himself.
