Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors pact drew mixed headlines in 2016. The franchise was fresh off the 73-9 historic season run and adding another generational talent to their roster was seen as an icing on the cake. KD’s arrival in the Bay Area made the Warriors unstoppable. Even though the 14x All-Star won a lot of accolades with the Dubs, he was being annihilated by the fans and the analysts.

It was not related to his performance on the court but his decision to join such a star-studded team and take the shortcut to success. During his days as Warrior, Durant won his only two championships, and the Dubs even broke the iconic Michael Jordan record for the most wins in a season. So, KD was susceptible to a lot of hate at that time but till today, he does not regret his decision and only has good memories about his time being a Warrior.

In an interview with the Ringer, Kevin Durant spoke about his time and bond with his teammates and the coach Steve Kerr saying, “It’s fun being a Warrior. It’s fun traveling with the Warriors because it’s a family atmosphere wherever we went. I can have two of my homeboys on a plane with me just because, on a random-a**, one-day road trip. That’s how tight it was.” That was because Durant quickly integrated himself as a part of the championship-winning team with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

He solidified his position as one of the game’s finest players over his three seasons alongside the Golden State by winning two NBA titles and two Finals MVP honors. Despite the presence of the Warriors’ core star team, Durant’s effect on the court was clearly visible due to his offensive skillset and clutch heroics which drove the Warriors’ success to new heights. And, statistically, he averaged 25.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game which showed his versatility and offensive brilliance.

So, even though he joined a star-studded team at the peak of his career, his accomplishments cannot be overlooked because KD earned them. He did not win any of them back riding onto someone else or without performing because, in the three seasons, he was with the Dubs, he had made extensive contributions to their success. Due to that, as his NBA journey continues with other teams, his legacy with the Warriors will forever remain eternal.
