Is Terance Mann's $47 million deal the best bargain in the NBA right now?

Following the departure of Paul George and Russell Westbrook, the Clippers are doing everything they can to hold on to the rest of their key players. And joining that list is star shooting guard Terance Mann. With him entering the final year of his deal this upcoming season, Mann has agreed to a new three-year $47 million extension with the only team he has played for his entire career. However, that does not mean he is not at risk of getting traded in the future!

While Mann’s latest extension is fully guaranteed and does solidify his salary through 2028, his deal is immediately eligible to be traded. That means the Clippers could part ways with him if they get the opportunity to acquire a player who boosts their title aspirations. Moreover, Mann does not have any options on his deal and will make $15.5 million annually starting next year. Well, that might be a huge bargain considering Mann’s talent and the fact that the extension is less than 120% of the average player’s salary.

Sure enough, the extension does not affect the Clippers’ salary cap for the upcoming season as Mann is set to make $11.4 million this year, which was pending from his previous deal. As a result, the team’s cap allocations for next season will remain $177.5 million. However, once Mann’s new deal comes into effect next year, the team’s cap allocations based on the current roster will increase to $228.9 million with eleven players on their payroll. Nevertheless, Mann was ecstatic after securing his future in LA. “Super excited to re-sign with the team who has been with me from the beginning. It’s been a great five seasons with this organization and I’m excited to see where it goes from here.” But how can he help the Clippers succeed?

Will the Clippers’ reluctance to trade Terance Mann pay off?

Well, it certainly looks like the Clippers are adamant about keeping Mann on their squad. Just last year, when they were pursuing James Harden, the Sixers reportedly attempted to add Mann in trade negotiations. However, the LA-based franchise refused. Sure enough, the trade went through without the Clippers having to part ways with Mann and they successfully retained their perennial role player. Yes, while Mann has been part of the Clippers roster his entire career, he has spent most of his time coming off the bench.

Have an interesting take?

But last season was a massive upgrade as he started in a career-high 71 games. Moreover, he had an impressive showing by averaging 8.8 points and over three rebounds. With PG gone, his usage rate is likely to see another major boost next season and he could become the team’s primary shooting guard. Maybe, that’s why the Clippers secured him for three more years as he is only 27 years old and has a massive upside. What are your thoughts?
