It seems that Anthony Edwards is getting into the competitive spirit with the season opener itself. ANT and his trash-talking are one reason why watching him on the court makes the moments memorable. But this time, things didn’t work out in the young guard’s favor as the Lakers dominated with a 110-103 win at Crypto.com Arena. And Edwards ended up getting a taste of his own medicine from none other than Anthony Davis.

Perhaps that pushed him to engage in another back-and-forth with the Lakers head honcho, JJ Redick, towards the end of the fourth quarter. The clip was no doubt hilarious as Edwards gestured mockingly while Redick returned the favor in kind, much to the entertainment of everyone on the bench.

According to the announcer, ‘Ant-Man’ and JJ were having a chat about Edwards’ “footwork.” Here’s the video, captioned, “JJ having a chat with Ant.”

Things hadn’t been going the 2x All-Star’s way from the beginning, so his frustration is understandable. The Purple & Gold were off to a hot start, having amassed a 19-point lead in the first half alone. Seeing that he had to take matters into his own hands, Anthony Edwards provided the spark with an and-1 against Rui Hachimura in a strong finish to the basket in the second quarter, with only four minutes remaining.

The Georgia alum was ecstatic as he took the moment to get his teammates going. And the mics caught what he said: “Wake the f**k up. Wake up. Let’s go!” Although the Wolves squad heeded the call, cutting the lead to 13 points by halftime, they weren’t able to overcome a determined Lakers team.

And a major driving force of the rejuvenated Los Angeles gang was AD, something he let arguably the second-best trash-talker in the league know early.

Anthony Davis hits Anthony Edwards with a taste of his own game

The said moment happened in the third quarter with 3:00 minutes left on the clock. Davis was driving to the basket for a floater, assisted by Gabe Vincent when contact from Edwards resulted in an and-1 situation. ‘The Brow’ promptly turned to Ant-Man for what the commentator called “an extended conversation.”

A look at the video will show you that AD was rubbing it in Edwards’ face for good measure. “AD gets the and-1 and had something to say to Ant,” the caption read.

Ahead of the matchup, the 9x All-Star talked about how the Lakers are going to approach the season this time. “We gonna come in everyday put our heart and soul to prepare for every night, and put ourselves in the best position to win basketball games.”

The man stayed true to his word, dropping a stunning game-high 36 points en route to a double-double with 16 rebounds! Hopefully, the Lakers can keep this energy throughout the season for what is surely going to be a legendary year.
