Is LeBron James' empire at risk due to his fallout with Drake? What's your take?

One nasty bump and the wheels fell off the wagon for LeBron James, putting his multi-million dollar business in jeopardy. As it turns out, his longtime friend and rapper Drake is no longer following the King on social media! This news has sent shockwaves in the media circles as the two have been friends for over a decade and capitalized on that by becoming strategic investors. Besides, the two have also tasted some bitter parts of that aspect of life together.

Over the years, James and Drake have shared a close bond. A glimpse of this could be felt last year when Drake visited LA for his It’s All A Blur tour and he gave a big speech and shout-out to King James, “In 2009, when nobody believed in anything I had going on, that same guy showed up to a release party… He came all the way to Toronto to support me… Tonight… it’s an honor to be inside his building.”

Getting to the business side of things, it’s been almost a decade since LeBron James launched his sports media brand, Uninterrupted. 4 years later, Drake came along and became a part owner and promoted the Canadian extension of the digital athlete empowerment platform. “Uninterrupted has been an incredible platform for athletes to tell their stories and connect with fans. I’m honored to partner with LeBron to bring Uninterrupted to Canada, a country that continuously supports innovation and creativity.”

Drake welcomed the expansion with open arms and expressed his joy to do it with James. For better and for worse, the two also trod a rocky road together after the NBPA’s former executive director Billy Hunter slapped them with a $10 million lawsuit.

The suit came in September 2022 after James’ team had allegedly offered one of the authors the rights to Black Ice, an adaptation of the book – Black Ice: The Lost History of the Colored Hockey League of the Maritimes, 1895 to 1925. However, it was Hunter who had already paid the author for exclusive worldwide rights in February 2022.

Things turned out alright when the two Fenway Sports Group investors became part of the $3 million investment in the PGA Tour. It was a watershed deal that gave them equity in the league besides other benefits.

Now, Drake’s unexpected move has put his longtime pal LeBron James with adversity hovering over his head – What will the effect of this be on the Lakers star’s business, as the two have been on several business endeavors together?

King James seems to be headed toward, what can be said to be, his biggest loss all year. What started as a beautiful friendship between the two is now seemingly headed for something worse. Since Drake’s early days in the music industry, the two have stayed close. In 2009, James attended Drake’s release party in Toronto, and they’ve been together in the public eye since.

However, James seems to have fallen short in one of the major aspects of friendship, i.e. loyalty. Before you jump to conclusions, here’s the reason why. It hasn’t been that long since a Drake-Lamar feud took over the entertainment world, with the rappers dissing each other after sharing a friendship over a decade ago. There was a time when the two collaborated on a song for Drake’s album. Today, it’s nothing more than an ugly truth.

As for James, it has happened multiple times that the Lakers star has shown indirect support for Lamar. The most recent one was when he was spotted at Lamar’s Pop Out and Show concert, grooving to Lamar’s They Not Like Us track, while he also expressed his love for the song during the Team USA’s exhibition game in Abu Dhabi.

Then the fumes followed as Drake omitted James from his Instagram stories that featured KD, Steph Curry, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in their national team jerseys. What occurred there was after Team USA’s win, the viral song kept playing in the arena. Tired of hearing the song, Curry said, “Damn with this song. It’s not the only song in America,” to which King James responded, “I love it,” and that moment went viral.
