The Golden State Warriors’ first game of the year did not disappoint. Amidst a tumultuous run, winning only four of their last eleven, the Bay seemed like a different team tonight. Everything was in sync against the fully healthy Philadelphia 76ers. Moreover, Stephen Curry was unstoppable tonight. And while he usually wouldn’t, he and Kerr shared a wholesome moment to contain his tremendous outing against the Sixers.
For the sixth time this season, the Baby Face Assassin scored 30 points in a game. The Warriors playing through his blistering game, beat the 76ers by 34 points, their third-largest victory this season. And tonight, after a long time, the “confidence” Kerr has been searching for was back. The Warriors shot 56.4% from three. But Stephen Curry couldn’t miss.
His eighth straight three-pointed came in the fourth as he danced back to the bench. Considering his age, Steve Kerr has often opted not to play the Chef for high-volume minutes. The competitor within Curry isn’t fond. But tonight with everything going their way and him getting his mouth full, he looked to be in sync with his long-time coach in a memorable interaction.

“That’s the first time you ever you agreed to come out when you were red hot,” Steve Kerr jokingly told Curry. The Warriors talisman claimed he “didn’t want to push my luck”. But there didn’t look to be a shortage of it tonight. Along with his perfect shooting night, Curry also added 10 assists on just two turnovers.

It probably could have been a Stephen Curry extravaganza to close out the game. But from a safety standpoint, Kerr took a tactical decision. And for Curry, a lob-sided win and a dazzling performance was enough to happily trot to the bench.

Stephen Curry and the Warriors embodied Steve Kerr’s vision tonight
There was a unique energy in the Chase Center tonight. In its first game of the new year, the Warriors fans had renewed energy about their team, who had won just 3 of their last 15 games. Stephen Curry and Co. too seemed to have moved past it. Tonight, they executed just what Steve Kerr has wanted from the team.
He relayed his visions before the season. “I want to be a high volume 3-point shooting team. That’s important. If we can shoot a lot of 3s, it gives us a chance to play fast and get out in transition off of makes and misses,” he said in October. The message was simple. ‘Let it fly’ and then get back on defense.
That’s just what the Warriors did tonight. Stephen Curry took on the lion’s share of the three-pointers. But even leaving him out, the Warriors hit 14 threes. Additionally, the pace and opportunity to settle defensively helped contain a pacy guard such as Tyrese Maxey to just 14 points on the night.

Furthermore, saying only Stephen Curry took charge of the offense would be wrong. In total, seven Warriors scored in double-digits tonight, including three from the coming off the bench. The win against the 76ers looks to be a flawless representation of how Steve Kerr expects the team to play.
They shot a lot of threes and played defense with heart. Ultimately, it ended in a 105-139 win against a strong opposition. Aside from being a much-needed win, this could also be the blueprint that could finally bring consistency back for the Bay. What were your thoughts on tonight’s game?
