Giannis Antetokounmpo just hit an incredible personal milestone. After dropping 32 points against the Dallas Mavericks tonight, Giannis has now scored 20,000 points in the regular season. But he wasn’t able to revel in the glory of his accomplishment. And things almost went awry between him and Doc Rivers because of this!

Doc Rivers wasn’t pleased with his star in the locker room following Giannis’s milestone. The coach acknowledged Giannis’ greatness in getting to 20,000 points but he also tore him a new one for not paying attention while he laid out the plays. “Hey Giannis. 30,000, what is it? 20,000. I got some more for you… Your plus-minus today was a plus 30. Having said that, the next time I draw up a play and you’re looking at the video, we’re gonna have a problem,” Doc warned the Greek Freak.

And if we’re being honest, Doc looked genuinely irritated at Giannis for not paying attention. But knowing the deep bond they share, we’re sure it’s nothing. He even praised the run Giannis is on currently during the post-game press conference. “You can put his numbers against anybody this year, you really can…And at times, we do take it for granted. And we really shouldn’t,” said Doc.

You see, coaches and players are bound to disagree sometimes. Just look at the recent incident between Kevin Durant and Mike Budenholzer if you want an example. They briefly clashed on the court, but later, both of them dismissed and downplayed the whole thing. Similarly, we don’t think either Doc or Giannis will hold a grudge about what happened.

Speaking of disagreements, though, Antetokounmpo and Doc also disagreed on the Dallas Mavericks’ plight right now. Let’s hear what they had to say.

Doc Rivers feels bad for the Dallas Mavericks; Giannis Antetokounmpo wants to “k*ll” them

The Dallas Mavericks are going through the ringer this season. As if trading away their biggest superstar, Luka Doncic, wasn’t bad enough, injuries have devastated their roster this season. Kyrie Irving, PJ Washington, Dereck Lively II, Anthony Davis: these are just some of the names that are OUT for the Mavs right now.

Given their situation, Milwaukee head coach Doc Rivers was quite sympathetic. A reporter asked him how he felt after his team’s victory. While Doc gave the team a lot of credit, he also said that the Mavs weren’t at their best tonight. “I thought we played the right way, overall…They have so many guys out. It’s tough for them. Like, that’s how I kept thinking. You [only] got Klay Thompson over there. So it’s just a tough spot,” said Doc.

However, Giannis doesn’t feel the same way about Jason Kidd’s team. During the interview on the sidelines, a reporter told Giannis that coach Kidd had seen the greatness within Giannis from the start. The Greek star revealed how happy he was to achieve this milestone with people he’d been around for years. Even if they were the opposition now.

“It feels good, especially with people who’ve been around me for years…Coach Jason and I were together for 4 years. Now, obviously he’s with the Dallas Mavericks, so whenever I see him, I’m trying to kill his team. But I’m happy that I was able to accomplish something like this,” said Giannis. Despite it being years since they were on the same side, it’s still all love between Kidd and Giannis. Even if that love is underscored by a competitive edge.

At the end of the day, Giannis seems to have a great relationship with his former and current coaches. But that’s to be expected because the Greek Freak always delivers on the court!
