Jeff Bezos out—Does this mean the Celtics dodged a bullet or missed a golden opportunity?

Without the energy and enthusiasm of fans, sports wouldn’t be a festival. This is especially true in Boston, where sports culture embodies genuine passion and love for their teams. Take the Celtics’ championship parade, for instance, with fans swarming the street in celebration. But in Boston, intense love can also mean intense wrath at times. As the franchise went up for sale, Kevin Garnett ensured the warning reached prospective buyers.

While on the Ticket & the Truth show, Garnett and Paul Pierce, two Boston Celtics icons, spoke about the imminent sale of the franchise. While addressing the new ownership, Pierce felt it would be someone nobody knows. The Big Ticket also speculated that a tech giant could take over. However, what mattered most to Garnett was that the new owner share a key trait with Celtics Governor Wyc Grousbeck: caring deeply about the fans wishes.

“He was always in that cloud of I got to, I have a responsibility to the past in having this precious gem. How do we curate and grow this precious gem? I really felt like that when I talked to him. You know what I’m saying? So, whoever it is is going to have to have a piece of that. Because if you come in here just trying to flip it and it’s about to buy. The fans sniff that out, man. The fans in Boston, they’re not for that s**t. They’ll tear that m*********er up if they have to, you know what I’m saying? To prove a point,” the Big Ticket said.

In times of financial stress, an owner with substantial resources like Jeff Bezos would be ideal. However, it appears Bezos has withdrawn his  interest.
