Joel Embiid has made his decision. He is going to represent Team USA in the next Olympics, Men’s Basketball Tournament. After 13 years in the star-spangled nation, he now considers himself an American citizen. He also expressed that since his choices revolve around family, he chose to play for Team USA. His son is a US citizen, after all. He chose the United States despite living in Cameroon for his first 16 years.

Last year, France gave him French citizenship, two months before he officially became a US citizen. He could have played alongside Victor Wembanyama in the French national team, but he is now joining his talents with LeBron James and Stephen Curry. In that wake, one of the most regular appearances in the French national team may have taken a jibe at the reigning MVP.

With Embiid going the USA way, the anticipation of many French basketball players had been for nothing. They didn’t have his services during the latest FIBA World Cup. They also didn’t have the talk of the town Victor Wembaynama. It’s almost like the NBA is taking away their top-level talents. But both cases are different. Wemby was born in France and also spent all his life there before making it to the USA. Now, like Embiid did in 2014, he is also set for an exhausting but rewarding NBA journey.

In that wake, one NBA player is surely finding his journey in the USA only exhausting; Evan Fournier.

Fournier wants to get out of the Knicks and hasn’t left anyone stone unturned to berate coach Tom Thibodeau. The veteran coach has held his ground and cited how the Knicks took a leap last year after he removed Evan Fournier from the rotation. For someone who has averaged over 20 points a game just a few seasons ago, this is a big slight.

Frustration is mounting, and he isn’t holding back his emotions anymore. Now the sharpshooter purportedly has his say about the whole Embiid saga. Taking to X, he posted a GIF of a French national waving the flag proudly.

The flag is creating beautiful visual impressions while also showcasing patriotism. In that regard, Fournier wrote,”Fierté. #ENSEMBLE.

Was this a shot at Joel Embiid?

Fierte means “pride” and by using Ensemble, he is implying that he sees all French people and the nation of France as one. Did Fournier take a dig at the superb scorer? But Embiid has defended his position and his arguments are persuasive in many regards. He has been USA for a long time and he has implied that his American son would rather see him in a USA jersey. The triple-citizenship holder is looking out for his family.
