We have seen many players fumble on the court during clutch minutes. Especially during the final few seconds, we can even find players making hilariously costly mistakes. But tonight, we witnessed a coach standing on the sidelines making a costly error that handed the game away to a hungry team. The Utah Jazz‘s star Collin Sexton had the moment to shine defeating the lethal LA Lakers and LeBron James at home, but Jazz HC Will Hardy pulled off brain fader.
With 9 seconds on the clock, the Jazz were one point behind the Lakers and had the opportunity to win the game. The 7th-year guard, Collin Sexton, had the ball in his hand and Rui Hachimura all over him, but he managed to drive up the lane and drop a floater. Unfortunately, a second before he attempted the shot, Coach Hardy ran up to the refs and called the timeout, without realizing Sexton had gone for the bucket.
The 25-year-old guard, along with all the Jazz fans, clearly expressed their frustration with the decision. Following that blunder, HC Hardy gave Colin Sexton another chance.

This time, he had to take a shot from the perimeter over LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Christian Koloko with less than 2 seconds on the clock. Unfortunately, Sexton couldn’t even shoot the ball, as the Lakers’ trio was all over him and stole a much-needed win. Meanwhile, after the buzzer, he walked back to the locker room, hanging his head down. But the fans behind the screen weren’t letting it slide easily.
Fans weigh in on Jazz coach after the blunder against LeBron James & Co.
The fans had every possible reaction to the blunder, like anger, frustration, sarcasm, and even empathy. Firstly, let’s look at the sarcastic ones. A fan wrote, “What a save by Will Hardy. Almost got a win there for a sec.” The Jazz has had a disappointing run this season with a 4-15 record before tonight’s game. Standing at the 14th seed, the team will at least need 5 wins to go up to the 13th seed. Tonight, they had the chance to take the first win with competitive effort, but it all went to trash after Hardy’s blunder of a call.
Next up, there is another reaction with a sarcastic touch, as a fan wrote, “Utah Jazz GM: You know we’re tanking for Cooper, right? Will Hardy: Say less”

Duke’s Cooper Flagg expects to get selected as the first pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. And, the teams finishing with a poor record at the end of this season have a higher chance of getting the top pick on the NBA Draft Lottery. So, this fan decided sarcastically to theorize a fake conversation between Hardy and the Jazz GM after the blunder.
Moreover, this isn’t the only moment this season when a coach had a brain-fading moment and this fan decided to remind everyone of it. They wrote, “Funnier than Erik Spoelstra calling timeout even they don’t have a timeout vs. Pistons” Most importantly, this fan rated tonight’s incident as funnier than the Eric Spoelstra one. The Miami Heat coach, in a close game against the Pistons, threw the game away after he called a timeout without having one. With one second remaining in the overtime and scored tied at 121, Spoelstra gave a free throw to the Pistons for the win!

On the other hand, fans also gave a shout-out to Collin Sexton for taking it professionally after the blunder, as he didn’t yell or argue at his coach after that. A fan wrote, “Shout out Sexton for keeping it professional. You can tell he wanted to crash out but remembered you gotta act a certain way to stay in this league”.
At the same time, a fan noticed the coach losing his cool for a bit on the game and wrote, “The audacity of him getting pissed… I would’ve crashed tf out if I was one of the players.” Nevertheless, what do you make of the whole act? Let us know in the comments.
