Can Victor Wembanyama bring the Spurs back to their glory days with Popovich and Paul by his side?

The onset of Victor Wembanyama planted a seed of thought of the San Antonio Spurs being reborn into their dynasty days. They’ve had the most successful coach of all time and the most electrifying prospect since LeBron James! Likewise, if not now, there was always meant to be a future. After this year’s offseason dealings, the Spurs have placed themselves to be much better than what they were last season. It could finally be time for them to get out of the lottery!

Their first move was getting seasoned veteran and ‘Point God’ Chris Paul to the roster. Later, they also received Harrison Barnes from the Sacramento Kings in a three-team trade. Then in the draft, they added an extremely versatile Stephon Castle, who just led UConn to back-to-back NCAA titles. Today, they all were together in one place having a lighthearted chat, a view to cherish.

For the first time, head coach Gregg Popovich met his two newest students, Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes. The trio are present at Las Vegas to watch the Spurs’ Summer League game against the Portland Trail Blazers. It provides them an opportunity to overlook next season while also seeing Castle’s arsenal up close.

The lottery pick isn’t disappointing so far. By halftime, he has compiled 12 points and 3 assists to go with his steal. Under Paul’s tutelage, the UConn product has a chance to fully tap into his potential. As decisive as CP3 is, even he bows to the legend of Gregg Popovich. “Obviously, I’ve admired Pop from afar for years, and when you’re in this for a while, as he’s done for a long time, there’s so much respect there. Not only for his basketball IQ but just for who he is as a person, as a competitor and all of that,” he said when asked about playing for the tenured coach

A piece of the crowd also fantasized about Chris Paul throwing lobs to Wemby and suspected the trio’s discussion to be around the generational talent. “Talking about playing with Wemby,” an X user commented.

From their traits alone, it seems like Paul and Victor will connect instantly. There are only a few who are as selfless and instinctive as the former Warrior when it comes to being the focal playmaker. Victor Wembanyama has the potential to be an unstoppable force, and quite probably so, when he is placed with precision. That’s something Paul can unlock with his mental prowess.

Hopeful fans of the franchise also projected how the Spurs would do this season. They are convinced that Coach Pop and Co. can get out of their lottery status. “I would say the playoffs but fr .. that spurs team makin’ the play-in at least,” a comment read.

The Spurs, within the space of a season, have established a ravishing-looking support cast around Victor Wembanyama. Castle could immediately carve his mark through his two-way prowess while Chris Paul will ensure the pieces fall in place and stay like that. All of them are wrapped under the Pop umbrella, which with the right tools, has always found success.

The San Antonio Spurs could be on their way to a big jump this season. At the least, if not playoff success, their young core will mature and pick up new tricks with veterans like Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes in place.
