The Phoenix Mercury demonstrated their outstanding offensive prowess yet again in a thrilling showdown on the basketball court. However, they fell short in the final stages of the game against the persistent Seattle Storm. Despite their gallant efforts, the Mercury were defeated by the Storm’s spectacular back-to-back 3-pointers, falling 97-91 at the famous Footprint Center.
However, amidst the fervor of the game, things took a turn for the worse when Shey Peddy was injured in the first half. The 34-year-old guard received a blow to her head with an elbow by Seattle Storm rookie Jordan Horston.
With 1 minute and 34 seconds remaining, Peddy collapsed near the 3-point line and stayed immobile for about 10 minutes. The game came to a halt and she was carried off the court on a stretcher. The player was shortly rushed to a neighboring hospital for further evaluation.
Concerns over Shey Peddy’s well-being remained at the forefront in the aftermath of the injury. Fortunately, later developments brought some solace.
Tests at the hospital came back negative, indicating that Peddy had not suffered any significant injuries. She received a diagnosis of concussion. However, she could move her limbs and return home the same night bringing solace to her teammates and fans alike.

Despite the troubling atmosphere created by Peddy’s injury, the game went on. The Mercury and Storm showed tenacity as they battled through the rest of the game. Brittney Griner’s return to the Mercury squad after a brief absence breathed new life into the team.
Diana Taurasi, famed for her scoring ability, resumed her strong play, scoring 28 points on 9-of-20 shooting. However, the Mercury’s defensive troubles and rebounding woes hampered their chances. This allowed the Seattle Storm to stage a second-half comeback and win. A remarkable flurry of shots in the last moments marked the turning point. Sami Whitcomb’s incredible off-balance three-pointer, followed by Jewell Loyd’s buzzer-beating three, powered the Storm to victory. Loyd’s persistence was on display in the fourth quarter, as she scored 17 of her game-high 32 points during this vital time.
