Kyle Lowry does have a sense of humor. The Philadelphia 76ers‘ latest acquisition made his debut last night and got a little something to remember it. He was clocked with an elbow to the face from Jericho Sims of the Knicks. Briefly returning to the locker room to get it checked out, the 37-year-old was back on the floor.
Taking to Instagram to reveal his brand new stitched forehead, the 6’0 guard added a hilarious caption to go with it. “I guess the 7 was a must,” a reference to his jersey number. The stitch ended up looking like the number ‘7,’ so it was quite an ingenious and comical response to the whole situation.
It’s his 18th year in the NBA and he has finally returned home. A Philadelphia native, Lowry received a standing ovation when his name was announced to take the floor. Just 40 seconds into the game and he made his first bucket. Although the Sixers tried to give a good fight, it wasn’t enough to hold the Knicks off. Kyle finished the night with 11 points, five assists, and three rebounds while shooting 71.4% from the field.

Since his trade to the Hornets, Lowry had not once suited up. And when Philly came calling, the Villanova product and Charlotte agreed to a contract buyout after the trade deadline. Despite the love he received, Lowry wasn’t in the least happy with the outcome.

Kyle Lowry is all about “winning”
After yesterday’s 110-96 defeat to New York, Lowry admitted in the post-game presser that he was “pissed” about the loss. Moreover, he emphasized that for him it was all about “winning basketball games”. It’s not unsurprising, given that he was brought up in a tough Philadelphia neighborhood.

And it was apparent in his return to the floor and finishing the game. He further explained that being professional athletes, they get paid heavily to showcase their best performances on the court. Therefore, it is his responsibility as a basketball player and an 18-year veteran to make sure he contributes to his team.
Well, it’s clear that the 76ers have got a thoroughbred Philadelphia native in Kyle Lowry. And there is no doubt he will be crucial to hold the fort down in Joel Embiid’s absence.
