Suni Lee and Anthony Edwards—Are the Timberwolves the new powerhouse in the NBA?

It was barely a few months ago when the NBA season ended, and now the stage is already set for the next one! The previous season was a historic one for the Minnesota Timberwolves, as they made it to the Conference Finals for the first in almost two decades. Now, looking to go even further this time around, Anthony Edwards and Co. announce their regular season schedule, unexpectedly taking some help from Suni Lee and some savage entries from the meme universe.

The official Instagram account of the Timberwolves announced the schedule for the 2024-25 season in the most eye-catching way possible. Things kicked off with 2024 Olympic Gold medallist and fellow Minnesotan Suni Lee looking into the camera and stating “Ok guys. We’re back.” Viewers were then treated to a series of memes that have gone viral on the internet over the years.

From using the running baby horse for the Dallas Mavericks, the same franchise that eliminated them in the Conference Finals, to using Anthony Edwards’s “Bring yo a**” remark towards Charles Barkley for the Denver Nuggets, to reminding everybody about Joel Embiid’s favorite WWE celebration in Philly, to Shaq’s ‘flamy’ reaction after eating the spiciest chip denoting the Lakers, and a lot more, the social media admin certainly may have laid the foundation for a well-deserved raise!

The Timberwolves’ performance in the previous season has certainly paid off. They’re now set to play in 25 nationally televised games, making it amongst the largest shift in national TV games. According to the released schedule, Anthony Edwards and Co. will have their first game on the 22 of Oct, when they’ll play the Lakers in LA. 4 days later, in their first home game, they will battle against the Toronto Raptors. In addition to this, the franchise will only take on the Mavs on Christmas, and the OKC Thunder on New Year’s Eve.

It would make sense for the Timberwolves social media page to take some viral-worthy help from Suni Lee. “Not very demure nor mindful,” they captioned the video. After all, after securing a Gold and two bronze medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the 21-year-old has only increased her respect amongst the locals. The same was palpable when she was greeted with loud cheers at the airport after returning to the US. On top of that, the gymnast is a big fan of the Timberwolves as well, having attended a lively game at the Target Center that took place back in November 2023.

On the savagery part, the Timberwolves may have won the round. However, their road to the Larry O’Brien trophy is going to be a long one. For Anthony Edwards, not only will he have to lead the team efficiently, but also look out for some formidable foes.

Analyst chooses Anthony Edwards vs. Luka Doncic as top rivalry for the 2024-25 season!

On the NBA court during the most recent season, both Anthony Edwards and Luka Doncic established their dominance. While the Dallas Mavericks star averaged over 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists during the regular season, the 22-year-old attempted to come close with his 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. Despite his reported competitive nature, Anthony Edwards was gracious enough to accept a handshake from the Slovenian after the Mavericks’ conference finals win. Despite this, one analyst believes that the duo certainly have the potential to become the next ‘LeBron James-Stephen Curry.’

In a segment of NBA on ESPN, former NBA shooting guard Tim Legler chose Anthony Edwards and Luka Doncic as his choice of a top rivalry. He added to his opinion by stating, “So you’ve got the smirky c***iness of Luka Doncic, right, going up against this elite defensive team in Minnesota that’s got all the swagger in the world on their side with Anthony Edwards.”

“After beating Denver, I think Minnesota kind of expected to be in the NBA Finals. Dallas said ‘No, not quite yet.’ So now I think, going into this season, both teams can taste it.

Anthony Edwards, who is often compared to the younger version of Michael Jordan by many analysts, has the competitive nature and the swagger that comes along with it. Whether he has the drive to seek vengeance, however, will only be answered with time.
