The Oklahoma City Thunder have been flying since the NBA began this season. They have players who can change the game instantly, yet will miss one in the coming weeks. And an absolutely important one. We must have seen Chet Holmgren wincing in pain on the floor after attempting to block Andrew Wiggins, who came to make a lay-up. Yes, he fell to the floor and everyone nearby heard him scream. Moreover, he suffered a right iliac wing fracture, which will keep him out for 8-10 weeks.
With Isaiah Hartenstein out for 5-6 weeks with a non-displaced fracture in his left hand, Holmgren’s loss couldn’t come at a better time. The team will miss him with no centers on the roster who can make a difference. With an 8-2 start in the season, OKC could be in store for some challenging times ahead. Wiggins’ elevation forced Holmgren to lose balance mid-air and land on his right side while attempting to block.
He got ‘pissed’ off at that one might say. He captioned it, “I can’t believe this mf– still made the lay w-f I’m pissed.”

But he came out on his social media account to express his thoughts about the injury. Earlier, he missed the entire 2022-23 season with a Lisfranc injury in his right foot. This comes as problematic news as he said, “Can’t tell if I feel better or worse about this having been through something similar before.” Having missed the entirety of the season two years back, Holmgren hopes for a quick recovery after suffering the injury at first.
He detailed, “On one hand I know how to approach it, I know what to do, what not to do and how beautiful the other side is. But on the other hand I’ve felt the frustration of this process, and the wear it puts on your mind. Most of all I’m hurt I can’t help my teammates and play for our fans and supporters for a while.” In terms of performance, the center showcased why the Thunder drafted him No 2. overall during the draft.
What’s your perspective on:
Can OKC maintain their momentum without Holmgren, or is this the beginning of their downfall?

With averages of 18.2 points per game, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game, it tells you the telling influence of the 7’1″ player from Gonzaga Bulldogs. But, he remains motivated to come back with a bang.
Chet Holmgren eyes rapid return to the NBA
He concluded, “Everyone who sticks with me and our team, along with my need for hoops, is a big part of my passion to return. Don’t pity me or feel bad, there’s lots of people out there rn with real problems that don’t heal. Anyways excuse my rambling just wanted to address our okc fans and family🧡💙🤍 Thoughts from da hospital bed -7.”
What followed after Holmgren’s injury could quite possibly be the Warriors’ form heading into the next run of games. They lost the game against the Golden State Warriors who lie alone on top at the Western Conference table. They lost with a score of 127-116 as Holmgren left the game on the shoulders of the Thunder’s trainers.

Even his teammates look concerned as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander mentioned, “It’s hard [to see]. Hopefully he’s OK.”
With this being the second major injury in his career, Holmgren played the entire 82-game season last time around. So, let’s see how quickly he comes out to play basketball for OKC as they need him.
