Although the Warriors didn’t make any headline-worthy trades ahead of the deadline, the Dubs did trade Cory Joseph to the Indiana Pacers, with Indiana waiving him soon after. But it hit the Golden State and Stephen Curry with harsh reality.
Talking to the press after the Pacers win, Curry found it hard to express his feelings on the matter. He said, “It sucks!”
He further talks about how the veteran guard was a true professional. Be it in the locker room or on-court, he was always at hand to help his team in any and every way he could.

It is not surprising that Steph really felt the departure of a teammate. The Warriors share a bond that is quite unique. Having walked into this team as a young guard with a heavy responsibility and lofty aspirations, Steph needed all the help he could get. And he did, from Draymond Green and Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant, as well. Of course, Durant‘s name rarely falls in tandem with Green or Thompson, but KD certainly provided the much-needed veteran experience and lessons Chef Curry required.
Not to mention, it was Curry’s early dominance that led the 14x All-Star to Golden State. Coming from a childhood that wasn’t too kind towards Steph, the 4x champion had to fight against all odds (and boy, were they high!) to reach the superstar status he holds now. That journey is what keeps him humble to this day.

It is also what makes him the perfect leader. During their 2022 title run, Coach Kerr made special mention of that. “Someone who you feel comfortable with in the locker room, but somebody who you can count on to take you where you need to go on the floor,” Kerr said.

“That’s what Steph possesses. It’s a very rare combination of qualities. But it’s what makes him special,” the Dubs coach added for emphasis. Green wholeheartedly agreed. He said that Steph was never going to lord it over his teammates, nor was he interested in being treated differently.

And that is something that has translated into the whole franchise. Being the face of the franchise is not just about the spotlight. It also has a tremendous responsibility attached to it. A player’s character and personality are seen as an extension of the organization itself. He is the reason the top talents of the league would want to play in that team. He would become the reason young hoopers would want to choose that team as their preferred destination.
