Is Luka Doncic the new king of trash talk, or just a multilingual basketball genius?

Dallas has witnessed a lot of Luka Magic in the 7 years of the Slovenian. Tonight, in a roll-over of the Orlando Magic, Luka Doncic gave the American Airlines Center another theatric night. Fighting without Paolo Banchero, Orlando, wasn’t favored to begin with. Yet, the separation Doncic created took everyone’s breath away. And while in rhythm and decapitating their defense, the 25-year-old got even more creative. Aside from watching shots hit the net, Luka Doncic finds solace in talking trash on the court!

“It’s always gonna be there…it just makes the game fun,” he said 3 years ago during the postseason. NBA players have attested to 5x All-Star’s natural acumen to inculcate the elements of talking and matching up to those standards. But what the Magic got was a taste of their own lingual prowess. While decimating the East underdogs, he indulged in talking a little smack to the Magic bench.

Luka Doncic had heard a few speaking Geman on the Orlando bench. “I know German a little bit,” he told the reporters. Likewise, having studied the language for 5 years growing up, the 5x All-NBA First Team member didn’t let the language barrier stop him.

“I heard them talking in German, so I said some things in German,” he said after the game. While the hooper did steal the language, Luka Doncic raved about the rise of German basketball. The Wagner brothers are among the pillars of the current system. The FIBA World Cup win impressed the Slovenian sensation. Coming back to today, of course, fans had to talk about their multilingual star.

Luka Doncic is getting back into rhythm while stunning his fanbase with a unique ‘asset’ to his game

NBA fans had the time of their lives watching the 25-year-old clean out the Magic through his emphatic run. They also enjoyed his innovative trash-talking. “Such a Kobe thing to do I love it,” one fan wrote. The Mamba, speaking Italian and Spanish, fluently, did whatever it took to get a mental edge on his rivals.

Another fan wrote, “Slovenia is neighbour to Austria. So in schools, most of kids also learn German. Western schools learn Italian and couple of eastern schools Hungarian. Everyone knows English and Serb-Croatian…”

Some couldn’t understand Doncic’s psyche. “My GOAT is a five-language polyglot goddamn,” a fan said in disbelief. “Didn’t even know Luka knew German… Bilingual King 👑” another netizen wrote. So, that makes it English, Spanish (because of his basketball stint in Spain), German, and Slovenian of course… What else! Surely, there’s more, isn’t it?

However, this wasn’t the case when the season began. The community didn’t get a shot to see the animal Luka Doncic because of a shaky start. But it was less about him struggling and more about his inability to get his feet wet before the season began.

Having dealt with a myriad of injuries last season and then a calf injury during training camp, Luka Doncic couldn’t participate in preseason games. That led to some coldness on the basketball floor. In the first 4 games, he was unable to shoot the ball with the deadly precision he usually has. “I didn’t have preseason, so I’m just trying to get back into my rhythm,” he said.

He was shooting career-lows from the field and 3-point range. However, Doncic knew it was only a matter of time before he found his footing again. Over the last two games, he’s averaged 30.5 points and regained his stroke. Shooting 40% from three in these games, the Magic witnessed the deadliest of Doncic.

In the 23-point win for the Mavs, Doncic led a surge in the first half. He scored 25 points, looking unflappable to the excruciating Orlando defense. He stretched the lead to the point none of the Dallas starters were required to play even half of the fourth quarter.

Luka Doncic is very much getting back to the hooper we’ve known and seen. With an improved squad around the Slovenian, vengeance for an NBA Finals loss is empowering the Mavs talisman toward redemption.
