In the final regular-season Bedlam game, Oklahoma University topped off an 84-82 overtime victory against their conference rivals, Oklahoma State. All thanks to a step-back buzzer-beater 3 by guard Javian McCollum.

Unable to contain his admiration for the young talent’s sniping, Trae Young promptly took to X to shower praise after his alma mater’s win. Reposting the game-winner, he quipped, “When you’re on that island.. call for help📞 @javian_0 big shot!!,” making sure to tag McCollum.

Emerging unexpectedly, the sight unfolded in a game where both teams grappled with a mere 29% shooting from the three-point line, a testament to the pressure and intensity on the court. However, McCollum has a chance to finish the game in a similar style during regulation. He missed a go-ahead layup with less than 20 seconds on the clock. However, Javon Small’s successful free throw equalized the game as a crucial miss by Jarius Hicklen with 0.6 seconds left, pushed the contest into overtime.

In his final season, Young touched the NCAA’s single-game assist record with 22 assists, breaking the Big 12 single game assist record. However, Young’s prowess extended beyond assists. In his first 13 games, he delivered a barrage of 20-point performances, marking the most in the program’s history. His streak continued to 18 games, representing the quickest 500 points in program history while doing so.

Furthermore, Young’s impact transcends all over the University’s galore; he holds numerous records for the Sooners, including those for 3-point field goals, free throws, and the most 40-point games in a single season.
