Following a successful comeback, Joel Embiid stamped his authority with a bold statement. Along with that, he also opened up about his mental struggles while recovering from the injury. The Philadelphia 76ers center returned to the court against the OKC Thunder after recovering from his knee surgery. Tonight, the 30-year-old had a controlled outing, dropping 24 points in his 29-minute stint. However, he was pleased with his defensive abilities instead.
Speaking to the press after the game, Embiid said, “I think my biggest impact is just being out there, and defensively. That’s why I was happy I got the last stop of the game ’cause I think I’m the best defender in the league.”

Moreover, speaking of his meniscus injury, he revealed that he went through a tough time mentally. He added, “took a toll mentally, being depressed…Still not where I’m supposed to be, especially mentally, but I just love to play and love basketball and I want to play. Any chance that I can be out there, I’m gonna take it.”

Joel Embiid opened up on two extreme emotions. Firstly, he addressed his comeback after missing 29 games. While he competed for the MVP award before his injury, he also seemed to be working on something else. He referred to himself as the best defender in the league. After dropping the clutch free throw, Embiid headed to defend. The Thunder trailed by 3 points with 7 seconds remaining on the clock, and in bounded the ball. The towering center took care of the business with his defense and celebrated a comfortable 105-109 victory.
On the other hand, this injury not only pulled him out of the MVP race but also put the team in a grave spot.

Before Joel Embiid suffered the knee injury, the Sixers were competing with the top-4 seeds of the Eastern Conference. Tyrese Maxey and Tobias Harris played the second and third fiddle during that time. But it all came crashing down, and they fell off to the eighth seed. Now, they have to compete in the play-in tournament to secure their berth.
Nevertheless, the Sixers have a second chance after Embiid’s return. They have six games left in the season. If they make the most out of it, then the Sixers have the possibility of finishing above the 6th seed. The Pacers and Heat also have similar records compared to the Sixers, so it will be easier to climb up the ladder.
The dynamics of the side have changed ever since James Harden left the team. In the absence of Embiid, the Sixers have a poor record. The team lost 27 of their 35 losses without the star center. The entire burden fell on Embiid and the team’s loss ratio without him is the standing proof of it. Even though Maxey proved his balling prowess, it wasn’t enough to carry the team.
