With the start of a new regular season, the New York Knicks received words of wisdom from Charles Barkley. In their game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, they struggled to put away an opposition without Darius Garland. Following their hardships, Barkley gave an eye-opening talk to them publicly.

It provided insights into certain key aspects of the Knicks, as it showcased their possibilities for growth. At the same time, the words could encourage the organization to bring forth alternative options.

The Knicks entered the half-time in this away game with a scoreline of 58-52, which put forward the team’s underperformance. Barkley thus identified them as a squad that played “played hard” and “solid” but “not contenders”. The 60-year-old then provided a suggestion to the franchise that could help them in the near future.

“All those draft picks we got,” he stated before raising the question, “What are we saving them for?”. Charles encouraged them to “Go out and make a move,” with the likes of Karl-Anthony Towns being a viable option. Highlighting Minnesota Timberwolves‘ struggles, the 1993 MVP recommended the New York side to make a move for him.

“I would go out and get Karl-Anthony Towns,” Barkley mentioned before criticizing them openly after the second quarter. “This team is not gonna win anything,” Chuck stated, before pointing out, “You can’t beat mediocre and stick with that”. His remarks came across as harsh but gave insights into the areas of improvement.

Could he be wrong about this?

The team came out in the third quarter with a mission in their mind. They led the period by 28-16 before eventually winning this away fixture 109-91. The franchise registered their second win of the regular campaign as their 2-2 record displayed their inconsistency.

Still, the organization has shown signs of improvement in recent years. Last season, they finished 5th in the Eastern Conference to qualify for the playoffs before losing in the semi-finals. Not only this, but the management seemed to have changed their approach too. This has paid dividends at times, as the signs of steady improvements remain prominent.
