LeBron James is still catching strays from polemic pundits despite his long and lively tenure in the NBA. The Akron Hammer has been in the game for over two decades now. The King is entering into his 21th season this year with an unparalleled fandom. But even then, he is still not spared the hate that comes his way.

In 2020, The Chosen One added another strong reason to his greatest of all time credibility. He won a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers to add to his remarkable tally. However, the 2020 season was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The playoff run that saw James take home the Finals MVP along with the championship took place completely in the bubble in Orlando. This was pointed out by the veteran reporter, Craig Carlton while brutally criticising the 4 time champion’s credibility.

Over the years, the Los Angeles Lakers have seen a tremendous number of NBA greats join their franchise towards the later half of their careers. The likes of Karl Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Gary Payton and Carmelo Anthony, all joined the Lakers after spending years in other teams. This trend continued when LeBron James joined the Lakers after playing in the league for 15 years.

Since his arrival, James has only elevated the franchise roster and has had a tremendous impact in Los Angeles. However, when asked about James’ credibility as a Laker, Craig Carlton was unimpressed.

On “The Carlton Show”, Craig Carlton and his guests discussed LeBron James getting a statue in Los Angeles. While talking about his Lakers legacy, Carlton said, “The notion of LeBron James getting a statue is a joke.”

He then went on to brutally criticise James saying, “This is one of those LeBron things where he wants a statue, he’s gonna beg for a statue. That’s fine, he broke Kareem’s record, the majority of his points aren’t in L.A. He’s got a fugazi championship in L.A.”

Carlton also urged people to stop hailing The Kid From Akron as much. “At some point, we can all stop kissing LeBron’s butt, he’s one of the greatest players of all time,” he said.

When told that James might get three statues for his stints in three different franchises, Carlton said, “He shouldn’t. Cleveland yes, I get it. I totally get it. Maybe we should just rename the NBA trophy the LeBron James trophy. Yeah there’s a possibility.

Carlton strongly disagreed to LeBron James being permanently etched in the Lakers’ legacy. However, during his stint as a Laker, James has made a compelling case for the opposite.

James has made a historical reputation for himself in Los Angeles too, leading the team to three playoff runs in his 5 years with the franchise so far. He delivered them the championship in 202o and also led them to an incredible Western Conference Finals run. However, his stints with other franchises that he has played for has been far more legendary than his time in Los Angeles.
