The new season has kicked off and so has Draymond Green’s tendency to commit fouls. Despite his teammates’ heartfelt confessions last season about needing him on the floor, the Warriors’ defensive mastermind couldn’t help but fall for that trap again, that too, on their first night against the Blazers. The decision came up right after he allegedly argued with game official, Tyler Ford. However, Green defended himself and accused a specific media house of building a narrative around his existing image.
On The Draymond Green Show With Baron Davis, the host was joined by the former NBA star, who informed the center about the 5-point loss he had to face in Fantasy Basketball because of Green’s technical foul. The two then burst out into laughter. “That tech was some bullsh*t, bro. It’s crazy,” Green said. “Also, ESPN irks me because you know they wanna build up this narrative, which is great.”
Green also pointed out how misleading their video was. “They cut it up with me talking back and forth with Tyler Ford and they cut it up like I got to tech with Tyler Ford. I didn’t even get a tech by Tyler Ford.” Opening up about the actual incident that occurred on Wednesday night in the second quarter of the game, Green said that he was bantering with Ford, who reciprocated in the same manner.

Soon referee Tre Maddox came and stood at the free throw line inquiring about the matter. Green claimed that it wasn’t a foul as he had not touched Portland’s Deni Avdija but had just dived. While he was returning to his position after the argument, Draymond received the tech foul because of his cursing, which didn’t make sense to him as he didn’t curse the ref.
“However, ESPN wanna chop it up and act like, oh, you got a tech for going crazy over there in that situation. Stop it,” Green added. Following the whole drama, Warriors HC Steve Kerr called for a timeout. Draymond also revealed what actually went down between them.
Draymond Green discloses his conversation with Steve Kerr after the foul
As tensions rose at the Moda Center, Steve Kerr made the strategic decision to call a timeout, aiming to help Draymond Green cool off and refocus on the game plan.
During the timeout, as Draymond Green tried explaining that the situation wasn’t his fault, head coach Steve Kerr responded, according to Green, “I know. I know it was bullsh*t, but we need you.” The 34-year-old then assured Kerr he was good to go and would stick to the plan as outlined on the board.

Green ended the night with an 8-6-3 stat line and had the last laugh in the 140-104 landslide of a win. With the Warriors’ Big 3 now down to two, Draymond Green will need to step up and support the remaining Splash Brother Stephen Curry to achieve the bigger goal without repeating last season’s mistakes, where he was suspended four times.
Green stated that he has already made up his mind, “I’m gonna have less than 10 technical fouls this year. I might even make a decision and keep it even less.” But seeing Draymond over the years, one can safely assume, he will cross that self-imposed threshold.
