Is LeBron's game stagnant compared to the legends like Paul Pierce? Let's hear your thoughts!

Kwame Brown’s relentless disdain for LeBron James feels like a never-ending loop! The former Lakers player eagerly criticizes LeBron, linking him to every issue surrounding the player and targeting his longevity, too. Recently, he even turned his gaze toward Bronny- the 55th overall pick in the NBA Draft, coming down heavily on the youngster with his “if he doesn’t” rant. Yet, amid this fresh wave of scrutiny, Brown pulls up the evolution chart of LeBron’s game through his illustrious career. Now, what’s this new front?

Kwame Brown- the labeled NBA bust by analysts, shared his views on LeBron James’ growth. “But the problem is, when he plays teams like Chicago or Boston, who have real solid principles, he has trouble. And so the old-school players wouldn’t have any trouble with LeBron because, at 39, he should have developed a mid-range and a post-game, and he still hasn’t yet.” Well, we’d call it a matter of preference for LeBron James that he doesn’t rely on his mid-range and post-game. But, has this become an eyesore for Kwame? Yes. He’s pointing fingers at the King’s development- the one he cannot find at all.

Let’s crunch a few numbers then for ourselves. The Purple and Gold ranked 23rd last season when combining the East and West for their accuracy from the field in the mid-range at 38.6%! This was in comparison to the Indiana Pacers at 50.5%, topping the leaderboard and the LA side’s arch-rivals, the Warriors six spots above LeBron James and Co. with 41%.

Meanwhile, Brown added on Swish Cultures: “His game really hasn’t evolved outside of a 3 and putting his head down and going to the basket. He doesn’t go like Paul Pierce, getting to a spot, pulling up. Those are the things you normally see out of a superstar player.” The critic, compared LeBron to the Celtics legend Paul Pierce, whose exponential career growth being part of the ‘Big Three’ inspired many and even led him to win the Finals MVP and NBA Championship in 2008. However, Kwame Brown argues that only LeBron James’ athleticism has evolved; everything else has remained constant, creating a straight line parallel to the x-axis.

Diving deeper into the mid-range discussion, LeBron James’ FG accuracy from the field (mid-range) is far lesser than his colleagues. In the last season itself, the veteran went for 32.7% while AD and D’Lo were at 38.9% and 39.6% respectively. The King’s numbers have, in fact, fallen as he averaged a healthy 42.4% in the 2021-22 season, after which we saw the sharp reduction.

However, LeBron James isn’t the only one who’s under Kwame Brown’s disapproval range. It looks like Bronny too has found himself on the ex-Dubs roster of honest opinions. One cannot truly deny the fact that Kwame fearlessly speaks his mind, even if it means that the hoops community would not agree with it.

LeBron James’ son Bronny James comes under Kwame Brown’s radar for criticism

Have an interesting take?

King LeBron’s firstborn, Bronny James became the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft. Thus, out of the USC, the 19YO is ready to set foot on the court with his father. This will mark the first time in NBA history that a father-son duo will play together on the same team. Well, it isn’t surprising that LeBron James unconsciously or consciously continues to break records, no matter what.

Meanwhile, Bronny has been tagged with various names, starting with “product of nepotism.” Considering his rank in the NBA draft, LeBron James’ son has been called a “poor version” of David Wesley.

Kwame Brown’s comparison suggests that the new Lakers recruit must excel in his point guard duties. Because if he fails, he’s going to be under heavier criticism not just by Kwame Brown, but by others too. The former hooper said: “At his size — six-foot-one, six-foot-two — he’s the only guy that I’ve seen who could play that spot at the two. If he doesn’t learn how to bring the ball up, he’s going to be a poor man’s Juan Dixon.”

Dixon and Brown were teammates from 2002-03 to 2004-05 in the Washington Wizards and the former turned out to become a slight combo guard listed at six-foot-three, with his playmaking and assists the weakest part of his game.

Brown added: “I think he’ll bounce around. His daddy has enough power with Klutch Sports to keep him in the league, but after that, if he doesn’t learn how to play point, he’s gonna fizzle out.” Once again, the conversation turned toward LeBron James. Kwame Brown makes a valid initial point though: Bronny must learn the game or risk becoming one of those princes who never become kings!

Bronny James might be predestined for greatness, just like his father. However, to nurture his talents he needs to know the game in and out; like his father. And well, with time he must also learn to take criticism. This makes us wonder how difficult it must’ve been for LeBron in his early days. Nonetheless, King James remains the most revered hooper of this generation- a fact that cannot be denied.
