One can say the Golden State Warriors could miss Klay Thompson. Yes, they are 1st in the Western Conference rankings with a 12-4 record. But when the franchise moves ahead to the playoffs, these minute differences could return to bite their hand. The front office has reportedly explored moves for Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jimmy Butler. How about LaMelo Ball, who Steve Kerr did not select in the draft?

With LaMelo Ball playing on top of his game, he and the Warriors could have fit like a duck to water! Sadly, the chances of it happening look bleak. Well, most of you know why – the famous Steve Kerr-LaVar Ball drama. “Imagine if Steve Kerr didn’t “hate” Lavar Ball, LaMelo would be a Warrior. Still crazy to think about. The Lightskindidness would’ve been NEXT LEVEL!!!! Steph & LaMelo would’ve been one of the coldest back courts EVER!!!,” mentioned an NBA insider, @MGRADS on X.

The story goes back to when LaVar and Kerr went on a war of words! Notably, Kerr called him the “Kardashian of the NBA” after he prepared his sons to get into the NBA. LaVar Ball obviously responded by stating Steve Kerr was the “Milli Vanilli of coaching” as the two went on and on.

Notably, LaVar prophesied the consequences of the feud on LaMelo’s future with the Golden State Warriors during the 2020 NBA draft. Warriors had the opportunity to pick LaMelo Ball but stunningly passed on him for James Wiseman!

We all know how that ended. Charlotte welcomed him with open arms as they got a star in the making. “I knew that Melo wasn’t going to go to Golden State on the fact that Steve Kerr was the coach,” cited LaVar Ball, talking to NBC. Well, wasn’t it obvious?

“So that was not going to work because how are you going to play for a guy that is kind of mad at your dad? So now you go to listen to him and I could see him saying, ‘Hey, I’m your employer don’t listen to what your dad is saying.’ I could see that. And that’s not going to let Melo play. That’s not going to work because now you have to think about your coach and your father,” continued LaVar.

But of course, he admitted the dynamic duo of Stephen Curry and LaMelo Ball could bring the opposition to their knees!

What’s your perspective on:

Did Steve Kerr's feud with LaVar Ball cost the Warriors a legendary backcourt with LaMelo and Steph?

Have an interesting take?

Is a combination of LaMelo Ball and Stephen Curry possible in the future for Steve Kerr and the Warriors?

If you look at both players, they have similar playing styles. They shoot three-point bombs from an extended range, savvy ball-handling ability, the nous to pick out a flashy pass followed by an effective inside scoring game leaving no stone unturned.

Ah, the chills! Sadly, it will happen only if:

  • Steve Kerr leaves the Warriors, which won’t happen anytime soon
  • Steve Kerr and LaVar Ball settle their differences and rebuild the Warriors franchise with LaMelo Ball

If you think about it, LaMelo is the perfect heir to Stephen Curry’s throne. He can provide the star power in the backcourt and the only issue points out to the ‘ball hogging’. Both players are primary ball-handlers for their respective teams and they would love the ball in their hands. Yet, LaMelo signed a 5 year $200 million+ contract keeping him at the Hornets until 2028-29.

It’ll take a lot of players and picks to move him around the ballpark, though. But, with Steve Kerr’s coaching, both players can work well by passing around the court with ease.

Hence, in sports, nothing is impossible.

We have seen some shocking trades around the league with Kevin Durant joining the Golden State Warriors or LeBron James leaving Cleveland to form a Super 3 in Miami. Hence, it’s LaMelo’s time to shine and I, as a fan, want to see them both play.

Can it happen? Let us know in the comments below.
