Pacific Palisades, a favorite escape for celebrities and nature lovers alike, found itself under siege on Tuesday. A fast-moving wildfire tore through the area, forcing thousands of residents to pack up and leave in a hurry. With strong winds fueling the flames, firefighters scrambled to stop the blaze from spreading further. From miles away, you could spot the thick columns of smoke rising along the coastline—a stark reminder of how quickly paradise can turn dangerous.

Among those affected was the Golden State Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr’s 90-year-old mother Ann. As the fire approached, cars packed the roads, forcing many to abandon their vehicles and flee on foot, as the Associated Press reported. The NBA has taken notice of this tragedy. First JJ Redick shared his concern and now it’s Kerr.

In a heartfelt address, the Warriors head coach Steve Kerr shared his condolences for those affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. “Condolences to everybody in Los Angeles,” Kerr began, expressing his sympathy for the situation. “You know, my mom, uh, lives in Pacific Palisades. She’s had to evacuate,” he said, highlighting the anxiety and disruption faced by residents in the area.

Kerr also mentioned a staff member, Everett Dayton, whose family was devastated by the fire. “Everett Dayton on our staff. You know, he grew up in Pacific Palisades. From what I gather, his family lost everything,” he explained. The gravity of the situation hit him personally, as he added, “Everything I’m seeing and reading is just terrifying. What’s happening down there?”.

Kerr isn’t the only Head Coach of an NBA with family in the Palisades.

Not only Steve Kerr, JJ Redick also takes a moment to pray for everyone trapped in Pacific Palisades

Redick made sure to mention how close to home this tragedy felt: “That’s where I live. Our family and my wife’s family, my wife’s twin sister, they’ve had to evacuate.” It’s clear this situation was weighing on him as he explained, “I know a lot of people are freaking out right now, including my family.”

He wasn’t done yet, adding, “From the sound of things, I know a lot of people are scared… Thoughts and prayers for sure. I hope everybody stays safe.”

His comments came right after reporters finished asking about basketball. The press conference seemed to be winding down, but Redick took a moment to speak up. It was a personal moment, as the fire in his community deeply affected those close to him. He didn’t just want to talk basketball, but to remind everyone that there’s more going on in the world, and real people are facing real fear right now.
