Steve Kerr’s rotations are still not in their final stages, as Team USA ends their exhibition run. In these 5 games, we saw the Hoopers dominate and edge out wins, as well. Now when they enter the Olympics, the names Steph, KD, and LeBron will be the headline for Team USA. It’s the first time all 3 legends are teaming up. So, fans and critics expect nothing less than Gold, and rightfully so. But it all comes down to how optimized the starting lineup and rotations are, going into the group stage. And so far, there is no progression.

KD will be back soon, but that’s not what the coaching staff should only hope and wait for, especially when Steve Kerr isn’t getting his rotations right with the current players. And for the worse, some players have been steadily phased out. Haliburton, who played 20 minutes against Canada, saw a decline in playing time, ultimately sitting the whole game out against Germany. Out of all, no one expected Kerr to stay persistent with the current combinations, especially when he has multiple talents on his bench, like Ant-Man and AD.

“I really do owe an apology to Warriors fans. All those years while they were winning and had Kevin Durant, I’m just like ‘What are y’all complaining about?'”, Martin Weiss said on The Odd Couple. To which his co-host Rob Parker replied, “I’ll say this people who are in that city, they know they know better than you. And I’ll tell you I remember Steve Mariucci when he came to the Lions. I remember writing this column ‘The Savior has arrived’. Finally, the Lions had like a football coach who had won…”

“I got nothing but ‘you wait and see’ from writers out in San Francisco. Yeah, ‘you wait and see- when you watch him coach up close’. And you know that didn’t work out well with the Lions and he ended up getting fired,” Parker concluded. So, why did Martin Weiss initially apologize to the Warriors fans before his co-host’s NFL analogy?

Well, following the 2017 Championship run, things started to heat up between KD and Steve Kerr. Come the 2018 regular season, there were chances that he might leave the Warriors. Green and KD didn’t gel so well, and Steve was also a part of this, being the head coach in the Bay Area.

But then again, the front office was fully determined to keep Durant for the long run. Fans knew how bad it could get if things didn’t improve. Kerr’s time with KD in Golden State may explain how he likes to run his offense.

Usually, he’d bench his starters in the second quarter and let the second unit take over. With just minutes left to halftime, Steph, KD, Green, and Thompson would check in to settle the score. Whereas, the third quarter would be fully reserved for the core along with role players. This similar pattern is what we’ve seen with Team USA in the last 5 games.

But this isn’t the Golden State Warriors gearing up to play in the Olympics. Team USA has All-Stars and all Championship-level caliber players on the roster. Kerr can optimize the existing lineup in multiple ways, but they are weirdly only waiting for KD’s return.

Steve Kerr should look to prioritize LeBron James’ Lakers teammate

Apart from LeBron James, Anthony Davis has been the MVP. Bron’s co-Laker has been present on the boards, defense, as well as scoring in the paint. Yes, Embiid had a better game against Germany; it was his best performance in the exhibition run. However, if Steve Kerr puts AD in the starting lineup consistently, it would only improve the defensive end. The paint will be secured with Davis and James, making it tougher for the opponent to get easy opportunities, negating a lot that happened in the South Sudan game.

Besides, running a big-man lineup would also be a great option, keeping Tatum and Edwards in the perimeter along with Bam, Haliburton, and Embiid. Now running the same strategies he used in the Bay Area wouldn’t exactly work with these guys who’ve had major roles in their respective franchises and turned successful. It will be interesting to see whether the 9x Champion looks to optimize the 1st or 2nd unit and re-integrate talents like Anthony Edwards, and Anthony Davis, before July 28 when they face Serbia.
