The Golden State Warriors are currently enjoying a 5-game winning streak. They have also pushed past the .500 mark with a hard-fought victory that saw 13 players taking the floor. While the entire team has been contributing, Draymond Green has emerged as the linchpin for the squad. Notably, Green has reinforced his renowned defensive prowess, significantly impacting their performance. In the 27 games where Draymond Green has been on the floor, the Warriors boast a defensive rating of 113. Conversely, when playing without Green in over 24 games, their defensive rating rises to 122.3.

Steve Kerr, speaking through Willard & Dibs, underscored Draymond’s influence. Contrary to the interim coach’s comments, Kerr echoed Green’s commitment at a team level. Kerr revealed that the team has encouraged Green not to be passive but to embrace the energy and edge he brings. Furthermore, Kerr acknowledged Green’s penchant for arguing with referees, affirming the team’s support while advising him to maintain a balance.

The Warriors’ reintegration of Green into the starting lineup has been gradual. Despite lifting his indefinite suspension, the defensive anchor initially came off the bench due to conditioning concerns. Now, as the Warriors look to clinch a playoff spot, Green is averaging 9.2 points on a commendable 50% shooting accuracy. Moreover, he is showcasing an improved 3-point efficiency of 40%. In addition to handling the dirty work, he has been a significant contributor with 6.6 rebounds and 6.2 assists.

Draymond Green cites his suspension as the ultimate reason

The Warriors have reclaimed their winning form, and Green attributes their recent surge to his earlier suspension. In December 2023, Green faced suspension for an altercation with Jusuf Nurkic of the Phoenix Suns, lasting until January. Green contends that his 16 missed games allowed the Warriors to experiment with various lineups, leading to the emergence of Jonathan Kuminga. Even with Green back in the lineup, Kerr can now explore different offensive strategies.

With Gary Payton II returning to the lineup alongside Green, the Warriors are also anticipating the return of Chris Paul from a left-hand fracture. Green envisions a harmonious balance with CP3 back in the mix, elevating the already surging Warriors to an even higher level.
