“Just pi–ed off, you’re trying to figure it out. Everybody in the locker room is kind of searching a little bit, trying to understand what’s going wrong”. Speaking out in the aftermath of the Warriors’ loss against the Miami Heat, Stephen Curry candidly highlighted his true feelings. After all, going from kicking off the season with a 12-3 record to standing with an 18-18 stat would have left anyone emotional.

Some may have hoped that Stephen Curry and co still have their better days ahead of them. For them, the recent loss against the Toronto Raptors would have come as a blow. After all, not only did it reduce the Warriors’ win record down to 19-20, they lost to a team that had earlier won only 8 of their 39 games.

In the aftermath of the Warriors-Raptors game, Steve Kerr participated in a presser. During the same, he was asked about ways that the pressure could be reduced on Stephen Curry. After all, it was the reporter’s observation that the defensive pressure on the player had increased. Kerr proposed a simple, yet effective method that would involve cooperation from the other squad members too.

He went on to state “Well, we have a lot of off-ball stuff that we run, and when he’s being guarded like that, we like having him set screens. So, we should be able to free other people up, and then that should loosen the defense up. And that’s where he can start moving after, you know, after the screen. After the play.”

Anyone who has dabbled in NBA 2K, especially NBA 2K16, would know one thing. The fact that it is just so annoying to efficiently guard the power forward, but then he breaks through your defense after having his teammate block you with a screen. For someone like Stephen Curry, a brief open look is all he needs to make a shot, whether it is from inside the paint or from the three-point line.

A simple, yet efficient strategy that would still need to have some things figured out. After all, any teammate helping to set the screen would have to ensure that the player he is responsible for guarding does not get in the way promptly.

Steve Kerr’s proposal would also solve a dilemma for Stephen Curry. The Warriors haven’t been able to indicate that they can secure another championship title since the squad won its last one back in 2022. After all, the roster has changed quite a bit over the years, but not necessarily in a good way. The recent squad has changed the most, with the Warriors losing Klay Thompson and bringing in Buddy Hield.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Stephen Curry's optimism enough to turn the Warriors' season around, or are changes inevitable?

Reports have listed compatibility among the team players as one of the reasons behind the Warriors’ poor slump. Stephen Curry even claimed that it has affected their confidence. That, in turn, has resulted in the loss streak. Making comparisons to the 2021 and 2024 seasons, Curry even stated “The deeper you get into it, you hate having kind of Deja Vu so you’re trying to not allow your mind to go there”.

The situation has caused the Three-Point Leader to indicate that the Warriors should plan for long-term success by engaging in trades. He did so by stating “There’s a responsibility of keeping the franchise in a good space and good spot when it comes to where we leave this team when we’re done. Doesn’t mean that you aren’t trying to get better, if you have an opportunity or a trade makes sense, you want to continue to get better, and nobody wants to get stale.” The player’s dissatisfaction with the current roster even reached a point where he went on to say “Like the kids say, we’re very mid right now.” In light of this, Steve Kerr’s strategy to engage several players in setting up the screens may help instill some confidence, amongst Curry and the players themselves.

Implementing any new ideas involving Stephen Curry, even at this stage, could make all the difference at this point. After all, despite having fallen so low, the Warriors veteran has not chosen to give up on hope.

Stephen Curry also did his own presser with several media members. During the same time, the media asked the player if the Raptors’ loss is ‘the low point this year’. After all, the Warriors’ win record now stands at 19-20. They occupy the 12 seed on the points chart and have dropped below .500 for the first time this season. Despite this, the Three-Point Leader is not giving up easily.

“Such optimism when it comes to trying to figure this thing out. … You are technically one game away from righting the ship and figuring some stuff out” said Curry. “That’s what we choose to focus on”.

If the Warriors squad does want to work through some more chinks, then now is the time. After all, Curry and co may simply have only one game more that would give them a chance to right the ship.
