Allen Iverson once said, “Being an All-Star is everything.” Even winning an MVP title did not seem to surpass the excitement that one feels when playing during the most exciting weekend of an NBA regular season. Stephen Curry was reportedly amongst the “highlights” of the All-Star Weekend in February. Now, it seems fitting that Curry and the rest of the Golden State Warriors will host the next All-Star game in 2025. While the NBA world eagerly awaits more details about the event, Curry is keeping the specifics under wraps, for now.
During a recent interview with Bloomberg, Stephen Curry highlighted the role that Under Armour will play during the 2025 All-Star Game in the Bay Area. Curry has been associated with Under Armour since 2011. With the CEO sitting next to him, the 36-year-old praised the effort of the billion-dollar brand in making court refurbishments in the Bay Area and at the Oakland School District. He noted that these efforts went a long way in helping him and his wife Ayesha’s ‘Eat. Learn. Play Foundation.’ While viewers learned about the ‘court refurbishments’, the NBA star was unwilling to reveal anything else.
“We just want to dominate the weekend. It’s the Bay Area, it’s my home, it’s my 16th year in the league, and be on (the) stage that way,” Curry said. “Outside of the Court refurbishment, a lot of that stuff is going to be surprises. But, I’m going … I want to go big for sure.”

Whatever Stephen Curry has planned, it certainly has to be bigger or even equal to one of the major highlights from the 2024 All-Star game. This was the three-point contest between the Warriors’ point guard and WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu. Having placed themselves as amongst the best deep-range shooters in their respective leagues, the duo made the annual star weekend more exciting by competing in the first-of-its-kind challenge. Sabrina would later go on to highlight the significance of the challenge by stating “We went up there and we shot, and kind of proved to the world that it doesn’t matter where you come from, what league you’re playing in, if you have a talent and you want to work really hard, you can go out and accomplish whatever that is that you want to go out and do.”
Two months after the All-Star game, renowned NBA journalist Shams Charania reported that a rematch between Steph and Sabrina may very well occur during the next All-Star Weekend. Only this time, it could be expanded into a 2 vs. 2 battle, with star rookie Caitlin Clark joining her peer and Klay Thompson teaming up with his ‘Splash Brother.’ Caitlin Clark has already proven that she can tip-toe against Steph, having already broken the three-pointer record he set during his college days. Moreover, she recently joined him and Michael Jordan by becoming the only rookie from both leagues to record 29 points, 5 rebounds, and 10 assists on 70% true shooting, on multiple occasions. Furthermore, with the reported effect that her mere presence has had on the viewership of WNBA games, a phenomenon that has rightfully been dubbed as the “Caitlin Clark effect,” Steph would do his best to get the 22-year-old in for the All-Star game.
Even if Caitlin Clark won’t appear, fans will likely tune in to watch their favorite Golden State Warriors player. After all, the aura that Steph possesses even today played a big role in choosing the Bay Area as the venue!
Did Adam Silver factor in Stephen Curry’s influence when selecting All-Star Weekend location?
The last time the Bay Area hosted the All-Star Weekend was in 2000. This was nine years before Stephen Curry would be drafted into the Warriors. In the 15 years that he has been in the league, the four-time champion has elevated the Warriors, and himself. According to a 2023 report by ‘The Boardroom’, Curry has made it in all 27 most-watched games over the last eight years. Having analyzed this, Adam Silver may have believed that putting Curry at the forefront of the All-Star Weekend would garner more attention.

After choosing the Bay Area as the venue, Adam Silver admitted that the NBA considered the Warriors guard’s influence during the site selection process. “It factors in that he helps make this such a desirable basketball market. But I’d hate to put so much pressure on him; he’s not going anywhere for many years. He’s still in his prime. It’s amazing what Steph continues to do.” The NBA commissioner applauded the player on his ability to be marketed so easily. Emphasis was placed especially on his “multidimensional” personality, as he excels not only in basketball but also makes him very “relatable to fans.” This formula is perfect when looking to increase viewership at the All-Star Weekend.
