Balancing the NBA and a massive family is no easy feat, but it’s nothing new for Stephen Curry. The NBA community has witnessed him manage both sides with ease. However, a shocking development has emerged, as there seems to be friction with a relative—something that will require him to leave his $62 million contract with the Warriors to fix.

Isn’t it hard to believe? Well, it came from former player Austin Rivers who revealed about a vacation during an interview with Overtime. “We had a huge family trip in Fiji. It was all the Currys and all the Rivers. I didn’t go,” Rivers said. Wondering why? “We had just lost to the Warriors,” he disclosed.

It was only natural for Rivers to react that way as Curry had just defeated him on the hardwood. Moreover, he believes Steph would have done the same. “If the roles were reversed, it would have been the same thing. I promise you, if we would have beat them and I was playing the way he was playing, and I did a family trip for all of us, Steph would be like, I got some business things. You know, no way it would have came.” The video reached Curry, who in return jokingly commented on Overtime’s Instagram post, “Guess we gotta wait till I hang the jersey up for the real Sibs & Sigs trip.”

Rivers was in his first season with the Nuggets. They had worked their way up to the 2022 Playoffs, only to realize that the Warriors were too formidable a team to overcome. The Dubs hammered the Denver side with a 4-1 series defeat. And Curry? He was averaging 28 points in that series. Ultimately, the team lifted the championship trophy too.

While Rivers’ side of the family wondered why he wasn’t going when everyone else was, only he could feel the rage inside him back then. “Trust me, my family, my cousins are like, ‘Why don’t you just all go? The whole family’s going.’ I was like, ‘I can’t as a man. Had this man, he paid for the whole thing,'” Rivers explained. Since Curry took care of everything- the flights, the island and more, he preferred not to go. “This dude just had like 40 on my head top. There’s no way I was getting on a flight,” the former added.

So, the 4-time champion feels that the only way he and Rivers could go on a trip together is if he leaves the Warriors, which is a clear pun. Curry and Rivers are incredibly passionate about their professions. Even when it comes to family, don’t hold back. That’s why Rivers’ reaction was so intense. In case you’re wondering how Rivers and Curry are connected, here’s a quick peek for you.

A glimpse into Stephen Curry and Austin Rivers’ relationship

Stephen Curry and Austin Rivers might not be blood relatives, but their connection runs deep. Steph’s younger brother, Seth Curry is married to the former NBA star’s sister and Doc Rivers’ daughter, Callie. And their shared profession strengthens their bond further, even though they’ve never played on the same team.

Despite the times when Curry handed Rivers tough defeats on the court, there’s no bad blood between them. Curry’s string of laughing emojis on the post and Rivers’ numerous praises of the 3-point shooter on his Off Guard podcast, are proof of their strong relationship. It’s these bittersweet moments that make their bond so dynamic.
