Get ready for those Monday blues to hit a little harder. And no, it’s not just the usual workweek struggle — it’s some NBA news. Shams Charania, the king of breaking news, just dropped an update on Stephen Curry’s ‘new role’, and that’s about to break a few hearts. If you’re out of the loop on the latest, let’s fill you in.
The ESPN insider shared in an X post, “Warriors’ Stephen Curry has accepted a role with his alma mater Davidson College as assistant general manager for the basketball programs, university officials told ESPN. Curry becomes the first active player in U.S. major pro sports to take an administrative job with NCAA team.” While this is undoubtedly a significant achievement for the Warriors’ leader, the follow-up thought is sure to send chills down the fanbase’s spine.
Does this mean Curry is retiring? Well, the 36-year-old did speak about the “R-word” in an interview with Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard last month. “I’m not at the farewell yet. That’s just part of time,” he said. But he didn’t deny that he’s been thinking about it more lately. So, could this be it? A wave of strange sadness hit the NBA community, with fans gathering in the comment section of Charania’s post to share their feelings.

“Good for Steph but that probably means he has one foot out the door :(,” someone pointed out. As the franchise player, Curry has always been a fan favorite, but his charisma and incredible skills have earned him fans far and wide. Many young fans even look up to him as their idol. So, while the news might sound good for the 11x All-Star, bidding him farewell will be extremely tough.

With a heavy heart, one fan commented, “Hopefully this doesn’t mean he’s about to retire. All jokes aside I’m not ready for the Old Guard to step away yet…” Curry has been a part of the league for 16 long seasons, and saying goodbye to him is not something fans are ready for. Although it’s natural for players to eventually retire, Dub Nation feels it’s not yet time for that.

But maybe this isn’t the end for Curry. Quite honestly, he’s a pro at balancing multiple roles, so maybe he can juggle both; one never knows. But amid fear, the only person who can clear it up is the man himself. Until then, fans will just have to wait and hope the retirement bells don’t ring just yet.
