With one move, America came to a halt—the TikTok ban. The decision had been brewing for quite some time but finally, the app was pulled from both Google and Apple stores, leaving the nation with the largest number of users stunned. One of the people affected by the consequence was Stephen Curry’s sister, Sydel Curry-Lee.

While many have shared their opinions on the TikTok ban, Curry-Lee wasn’t about to stay quiet. So, she picked up her phone and shot a video to give her Instagram followers a glimpse into her thoughts. “I use TikTok more so as, like, a regular person rather than, like, a content creator. I never really understood TikTok,” she confessed on the IG story. “I tried to put some stuff on there every now and then, and I just never felt confident in it because it’s just a whole different world over there for me as a content creator. Right? I have so many thoughts that I wanna say. I’m trying to, like, map them all out in my head.”

The third pregnancy has been a challenge for Sydel, as she shared how she’s been struggling to breathe after catching a cold and not feeling well at times. However, she felt relieved to share her thoughts with her followers on her Instagram stories. Despite not being a pro on the now-banned app, Stephen Curry’s sister admitted, “I’m gonna miss TikTok just because of the funnies. Like, it’s so freaking funny.” But beyond just the entertainment, she saw much more value in the platform.

“It’s informative,” Sydel said. “I found out things about life, raising my kids, like just hacks, all types of things from TikTok, and I think it’s really, really sad that it’s going away. Hopefully, something happens where it brings it back, but I’m really sad that it’s going away as a consumer.”

Curry’s sister was one of the 170 million Americans grieving the loss of the app. But all hope might not be lost after all. There’s still a glimmer of hope that the situation could turn around.

The Supreme Court ordered TikTok’s removal due to its China-based parent company, raising concerns about potential Chinese government influence and the app’s data collection practices. The company was given time to find an American buyer, but after failing to do so, the app was instructed to be removed.

However, President-elect Donald Trump offered a glimmer of hope to users, posting on his Truth Social account, “I will issue an order on my first day in office to give TikTok more time to find a U.S. buyer.” This move could delay the permanent ban. With Trump set to take office on Monday, it could become a pivotal moment for Sydel Curry-Lee and millions of other Americans.

Meanwhile, all Sydel suggested was to bring the content she loved from TikTok over to Instagram. She mentioned enjoying videos like “get ready with me” and skincare routines, among other types of content. While the TikTok ban was a major blow, she believed Instagram was another big platform that could host these beautiful and creative videos. The platform may have changed, but creativity doesn’t have to be limited by apps. After everything she’s been going through, she certainly deserves the entertainment needs back in her life until a permanent solution is found.
