Speaking on the Dub Talk podcast, the 36-year-old Stephen Curry shared his experiences with Steve Kerr as his coach at the Golden State Warriors for the last 10 years. “It’s been amazing just knowing that the first year he came in, the way that he approached the transition from Mark Jackson in such a humble way and with an aware kind of mindset,” Curry revealed. Steve Kerr hasn’t been authoritarian, even in his first year, his approach towards the players and the playing staff was humble.

“‘You guys are a playoff-caliber team. Your defense is great. We just need to make a few tweaks. I’m not trying to come in here and reinvent the wheel. But, you know, try to add a little spice to what you do offensively that can hopefully get you over the hump.'” Steph shared how the new coach encouraged the team and put forth the ideas he had in his mind. Kerr himself is a five-time NBA champion; therefore, he knows how to bring out the best in a player. And he delivered.

However, the criticism never seems to stop and Stephen Curry is annoyed at those who have started an ‘Anti-Steve Kerr Campaign’. Taking a dig at such detractors, Curry noted: “In today’s age with social media and everybody kind of nitpicking every subtle move or little move, rotation, minutes, play call, like everything. You have to kind of block all that out.”  And Kerr’s a master at it. “A lot of those guys and girls would probably not last a day in that role if they had that responsibility. I don’t envy that job at all.”

The 10x NBA All-Star is happy with his job as a basketball player. He doesn’t envy Steve Kerr’s $35 million job at all. Moreover, on a serious note, how many can pull out a mediocre team and turn them into NBA champions? Surely not everyone has such potential. But Coach Kerr did the impossible with Stephen Curry & Co.

What has Steph learned from Steve Kerr in the 10 years they’ve worked together?

“He has such a way of managing people and a perspective that he’s gained over the course of his life on and off the basketball court, the coaches that he’s played for, the teammates he’s played with,” Stephen Curry complimented. “That nothing at this stage really surprises him or shocks him. He’s just always trying to figure out how to get the best out of the team that he’s coaching.”

Curry further noted: “It’s not an easy job. I think the thing I’ve learned the most about him is his composure his conviction of what he believes and how he sees the game blended with collaboration with his coaching staff.
