With everyone focused on the upcoming Paris Olympics, Sunday morning was expected to be just like a regular one. Instead, it marked one of the grimmest days in USA history as former President Donald Trump barely escaped an assassination attempt. The g*n shot in Pennsylvania echoed around the USA and reached offshore 6,700 miles away in the UAE. Stephen Curry and his teammates currently limbering for their Olympics assignment woke up to the horrific news, and one can easily anticipate the concerned reactions.

The development understandably disturbed Steph Curry, who carried the star-spangled flag with great pride. As a vocal leader of the team and an icon of the Bay Area, Curry revealed the team’s mindset to cope with the depressing situation.

After the practice in the morning session, Steph Curry attended his media duties. The unrest in his home country was at the forefront of discussion and Curry amicably addressed the mood in the locker room. Not only that, the 10-time All-Stars also revealed the duty they have as representatives of the nation. “For us, we’re gonna use it as a unifying moment, use this platform and these upbringings, our families, our country to the best that we can. And, hopefully, that channels the right energy back home when they’re watching us play,” Curry told the gathered media.

“So I just hope that it’s talked about in a way that’s trying to evoke progress as opposed to where I feel like a lot of the conversation is more divisive and it’s stiff,” Curry further added. With the game against Australia on July 15, the incident certainly demoralized the mood in the camp. Along with Curry, Steve Kerr has also broken his silence over the matter and labeled it a “very sad time”. Curry, who has visited the White House multiple times, previously lectured over g*n violence in 2023. The 4-time NBA Champion expressed his desire to switch to a political career if it gave him the chance to make a positive difference.

Stephen Curry opened up about joining politics after NBA career

At 36, Curry still has a good few seasons in him before he can eventually think of calling it a day. With his charitable portfolio and business ventures, possibilities are endless for Curry once he closes the closet on his jersey. Earlier this year, Curry even hinted at a potential move to politics. “Maybe I have an interest in leveraging every part of my influence for good in the way that I can. So, if that’s the way to do it, then – I’m not going to say the presidency, but if politics is a way that you can create meaningful change or if there’s another way outside of politics,” Curry told CBS Mornings earlier this year.

Have an interesting take?

Stephen Curry’s willingness to leave a mark even outside his legacy on the court resulted in establishment of various foundations like Eat. Learn. Play, collaboration with No Kid Hungry. The Paris Olympics will also give a platform for the team USAB to convey a positive message and hopefully bring a greater change, even if in the slightest. Before that, they’ll have four more exhibition outings. So, it’ll be interesting to see how they respond on July 15 in the game against Australia.
