Known for his unstoppable three-point shooting range, Stephen Curry isn’t immune to slumps. Despite his dominance on the court, the Warriors star has faced his share of bad shooting weeks, leading fans to talk about an ‘NBA curse.’ But Curry has a simple ritual to break the slump: a fresh haircut.

When Curry experiences a bad shooting week, his first move is often a trip to the barber. “There’s a thought process that every decision you have on how you’re gonna present yourself. I have done it sometimes where you commit to a certain look or style and I go through a bad shooting week, and I’ll be like, ‘I gotta switch it up.’,” he said in Chapter 7 of the Heat Check with Stephen and Dell Curry podcast.

The 10x All-Star does not just stop there. In fact, a new haircut is just the beginning of a rejuvenation process. “I wanna know what the advanced analytics and splits are on the first game or two after I get a haircut, because I am pretty sure that’s the best version of me. Or, as a basketball player. When you get a fresh cut, you look good, feel good, play good, like there’s definitely a rhythm and energy behind it,” Curry added.

Who ever knew that there was so much hanging in balance in one haircut? But for the Warriors’ cornerstone, even small rituals can make a big difference. Although basketball is a team game, there is no denying that a lot is riding on Steph’s performance, as well. So, if the man believes a fresh cut is what it takes to get over his shooting slump, then that’s what it’s going to be. It’s just a small price to pay.

The Warriors fans are big believers in ‘fresh cuts’ just as much as Stephen Curry

Sometime in late January, the Dubs superstar arrived sporting a new haircut. He was back to his buzz cut after going for longer styles over the past years. No sooner did this new look drop than the Golden State fan base was buzzing with excitement! They were over the moon, confident that the new look would bring another winning streak.

But this wasn’t the first time Curry’s haircut ritual excited fans. Back in 2021, after his legendary 11-game streak of 30+ points was cut short in Washington, Curry immediately got a fresh haircut. The result? He led the Warriors to a 118-97 win over the Nuggets, scoring 32 points on 11-of-18 shooting.

Despite a rather underwhelming 2023-24 season, Curry’s recent life events, including the arrival of his fourth-born, Caius Chai, and the Olympic gold medal, have set the stage for a crucial upcoming season. It will be crucial, so don’t be surprised if Steph kicks it off with a fresh cut to make his fresh start.
