Can the Warriors still be a championship team without Klay Thompson? Share your thoughts!

It’s been quite a while since Klay Thompson left the Bay. So far, it’s been pretty quiet among Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and the franchise itself. While the Dubs made decent transactions so far into the offseason, there still seems to be a void. It is going to be challenging! Curry, Thompson, and Green have been the core of the franchise that won four championships together. On the other hand, it would be quite weird to see Thompson in a uniform other than that of the Warriors, as Steve Kerr agrees.

As Steph and his head coach prepare for Paris, knowing what they’ve lost, they have to focus on the Olympics. It will be tough to continue playing without Thompson, knowing the Splash Brothers have played together for over 12 years. Curry acknowledges that he won’t be playing with his longtime teammate next season.

“It’s still weird, man. I really haven’t figured out the emotions yet just because it’s one of those pieces that really won’t sink in until you get into October and you go to the locker room and you’re in your familiar sights and sounds of the Chase Center… What we were able to do for how long we were able to do it and together, it’s special and it speaks to how hard it is to do that. So, I’m going to choose to celebrate all the things we accomplished and all the experiences we had instead of feeling any type of resentment or getting pissed off about it. It’s still weird though.”, Curry told Andscape.

At this point, it is quite tough to imagine the Dubs without Thompson. Regardless, Steph and Green have a job at hand, and they’ll look to make the best out of it. The newest addition, Buddy Hield, is someone to look out for alongside Steph in the backcourt. Kyle Anderson, who is an excellent perimeter defender and an overall decent scorer, is also a great fit for the Dubs. But then again, Curry and Green will have a lot to plan as the regular season approaches.

What’s next for Stephen Curry and the Warriors

The Dubs will have to review the new additions and play them accordingly. While Hield is not someone who will fill Klay’s spot, he’s definitely a reliable shooter. The younger players, including Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, and Moses Moody, have taken command ever since their rookie years and have exceeded expectations. At the end of the day, the Warriors have a pretty good roster with guys willing to take the leap. With that being said, they’re not necessarily contenders in the West.

Yes, they do need a superstar or an All-Star caliber player in their lineup who can compensate for Klay’s absence. Now, Thompson’s last two seasons were quite rough. But he’s still a great shooter and defender. And that’s exactly what the Warriors wish for. As long as they have someone other than Steph who can take the load off of him and Green while they take a breather, the Warriors should be in a good place. It will be interesting to see how the Dubs plan to run the next season.
