Is Klay Thompson's departure the end of an era for the Warriors? Share your thoughts!

Four days after the sign and trade agreement with the Dallas Mavericks, Klay Thompson has finally bid adieu to his Warriors legacy and the immense number of memories left behind. The 34-year-old sharpshooter spent about 13 years of his basketball career in the league playing alongside his splash brother, Stephen Curry. Therefore, it would have been quite cruel of him to leave so much without a final goodbye. That’s why Klay penned a beautiful farewell note for the whole Dubs organization on Friday and posted it on his Instagram. The post contained some key moments of his journey with Joe Lacob and Co.

Still writing about 133 words of appreciation for his ex-home, the shooting guard confessed his inability to express everything that he feels at the start of the post itself as he wrote, “Oh Bay Area, there are not enough words and images to convey how I really feel about y’all.” While expressing his emotions for the Dubs, he did mention the relationships and friendships that he developed at the organization as he further added in the IG post, “The best part was not the rings though, it was the friendships I made that will last a lifetime.” After going through a roller coaster of emotions while expressing his thoughts, Thompson finally ended his goodbye in a military-style end note, adding, “Until we meet again. Sea captain out 🫡.” The best part about it was that after the post got uploaded, Thompson’s splash brother Stephen Curry reshared the post on his IG story, wishing Klay in his own style with a saluting emoji.

It just felt like a fellow soldier finally wished well and good luck to another soldier before parting their ways. It is just beyond imagination how sad Curry might be feeling, though, as Klay was more of a family than a player for him. This takes us back to the statement from Stephen Curry that came out in April after the Warriors’ play-in loss, “I could never see myself not with those two guys[Green and Thompson].” No doubt it won’t come easy for Curry to play on the court without Klay on his side. The one without whom Curry couldn’t envision his future. How will he play with his latest replacement, Buddy Hield, on the floor?

Will Buddy Hield prove to be worthy of playing alongside Stephen Curry on the Warriors?

On Thursday, Athletic’s Shams Charania updated on X that the Golden State Warriors have agreed to a sign-and-trade deal with the Philadelphia 76ers for acquiring Buddy Hield. Apparently, the Dubs acquired the 31-year-old sharpshooter to cover the hole left on their team after Klay Thompson’s departure. The Dubs have given up their 2031 second-round draft pick from the Mavs to the Sixers for the deal. Hield has signed a thorough contract worth $21 million for three years, including a $3 million partial guarantee for the third year and a player option for a non-guaranteed fourth year, as per ESPN sources.

Have an interesting take?

Though it won’t come easy for Hield as well to adjust to Curry suddenly, it seems that he’ll be able to settle eventually with 4x NBA Champion. He holds an eight-year experience in the league, being one of the best sharpshooters in the league, just like Klay. Moreover, he has a career record of 40% shooting beyond the three-point line. After so many years, the Dubs will have a new person to create floor spacing for Stephen Curry on the court.

The times are changing for the Dubs, and this is evident from their recent offseason moves. It seems that the trade winds are building something different for the Warriors dynasty. It will be worth watching what future awaits for these new Warriors, who are ready to ignite the smoldering fire for a championship win.
