“It’s crazy. I liked him since I was in sixth grade. I don’t even know what to say, man, ’cause that’s my favorite player ever”. Quincy Olivari’s recent remarks reveal that while there are many big Stephen Curry fans, he may stand out among them. In the recent Warriors-Lakers game, the 23-year-old rookie didn’t get the chance to face his idol, as Curry opted not to play in the preseason game. However, the two did interact, leading Olivari to shed tears of joy during the post-game press conference. His admiration didn’t stop there; he later “brought receipts” to prove why he deserves the title of Curry’s biggest fan, a sentiment that the Warriors star himself appreciated.

After the Warriors-Lakers game, Quincy Olivari quickly took to his official Instagram account to share an appreciation post. Alongside a recent photo with the All-Time Three-Point Leader, the rookie revealed that he received a pair of autographed shoes from Steph Curry himself! The post also featured a throwback image of Olivari sporting Steph’s iconic #30 Warriors jersey. Later, he highlighted how he possibly got that same jersey signed by Curry when he was still young and had yet to establish any ties with the NBA. All of these moments were encapsulated by the Lakers rookie in a simple yet powerful caption: “Dreams do come true.” Curry noticed the post and reciprocated the love in the comments.

“Pleasure bro. Appreciate you being a real one and letting me know the history!!” the 36-year-old wrote.

Along with Dalton Knecht, Quincy Olivari is another Lakers rookie who had successfully left a memorable mark during the preseason. After not getting much time to play during the Lakers’ preseason debut against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the player would later make 11 points within 9 minutes against the Milwaukee Bucks. He achieved this by shooting 4-6 from the field and 3-4 from the three-point range. Olivari’s performance earned him the praise of head coach JJ Redick and LeBron James, with the latter taking to Instagram to write “Yeeeeaaaahhhhh Q!! They know who 41 is now.”

His recent performance against the Golden State Warriors saw an even bigger jump in his performance, as he scored 22 points in 39 minutes by going 8-16 with his field goals, and 5-9 with his three-pointers. Despite this, when Stephen Curry came up to applaud the 23-year-old’s performance, the latter only had words of appreciation for the former.

“The first thing he (Curry) told me, was like I’m big fan of your game,” said Olivari. “Truth be told, I’m a big fan of him. I had his jersey. He signed it twice. I used to sleep under that jersey. I just wanted to be like him so bad, so just to be able to meet him, him be able to have some respect for me and then us to talk in the back. He gave me a pair of his shoes and signed them. That meant the world to me.”

The fact that Quincy Olivari has joined the league and that Stephen Curry is not going anywhere at least for the foreseeable future, means that the rookie will get plenty of chances to go up against his idol. However, in order to do so, he will have to first ensure that he makes the main lineup, and not the G-League.

“I just want a job” – Quincy Olivari makes appeal to join the main Lakers lineup

Although Quincy Olivari had the opportunity to represent the Lakers during the preseason, that doesn’t guarantee him a spot on the main lineup for the regular season. JJ Redick has already announced the Starting Five for the tournament. While Olivari could still be in rotation, it’s important to note that he was not drafted and is playing under an Exhibit 10 contract, which limits his appearances to just training camp and preseason. However, if his performance against the Bucks and Warriors doesn’t warrant a place on the team, then what will?

In light of this, during the postgame presser, Quincy Olivari appealed by stating, “I just want a job in the NBA. I honestly don’t know what’s next.”

With no opportunity to face Stephen Curry during the preseason, the regular season now presents the only chance for Quincy Olivari to go head-to-head with his favorite player. The Lakers’ management will decide, leaving fans to wait and see if Olivari’s dream comes true.
