Stephen Curry, the usually quiet guy, finds himself forced to be vocal when it comes to his political beliefs. A notable DNC supporter, the Warriors superstar has made it clear where he stands in Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. But it seems like he is quite aware that standing different from the crowd, especially in matters such as these, comes with a certain level of backlash. Of course, the globally recognized athlete is no stranger to backlash or being different.

Yet, Steph Curry always tries to stay away from situations or put himself in positions that guarantee heavy resentment. However, when it comes to the DNC, the 39-year-old ensures his voice is heard. Come what may. But, why does he do it?

“Well, first it was a conviction of, you know, what you believe being active in and actually publicly endorsing her [Harris]. And we’ve been a part of the DNC back in 2020 as well. As you approach everything with decency and humanity, it’s not like I’m out here casting flames at the other side. This is what I believe. And whether you agree with me or not, you want to be able to foster positive conversations and you want to able to have an intelligent conversation about what’s actually happening,” Curry explained to Bloomberg Originals host, Emily Chang.

It is true that the Bay Area native has leaned more toward the Democratic party. As he mentioned above, he, Ayesha Curry, and their daughters had endorsed Joe Biden in a video in 2020. Furthermore, back in 2015, when Curry won his first ring, he had been quite enthusiastic about their traditional White House visit. It was the term of Barack Obama, a Democrat. But notably, Steph refused to do the same after GSW’s 2017 and 2018 titles, which was Donald Trump’s time in office. Just another instance of Curry’s trust in the DNC.

As for Kamala Harris, they have more than just the party in common. The pair are straight-up, Oaklanders.

Stephen Curry believes VP Harris can ‘bring unity’ to the ‘divided country’

Steph and Vice-President Harris have a longstanding friendship that has solidified over the years. Of course, both being Bay Area natives have also factored into this camaraderie. But more than that, it’s what Harris stands for that made Stephen Curry such a staunch supporter of her presidential campaign.

The 4x champion has made sure to voice his support for Kamala whenever an opportunity presents itself. The ‘Chef’ used a press conference at the Paris Olympics to praise her energy. “Vice President Harris is primed to bring her energy to this campaign … For her, in this moment, knowing what’s ahead, it’s all about positive energy and optimism, knowing how divided our country is right now. [I’m] just excited for the journey ahead for her,” he said.

Harris had visited Team USA during their training in Las Vegas, which turned out to be a motivational aspect for the men representing the country. Even during her interaction with the team, VP Harris and Steph made sure to engage in a one-on-one conversation, catching up with each other. Needless to say, it made the headlines.

But perhaps the most moving moment was when Stephen Curry appeared in a pre-recorded video at the Democratic National Convention, fresh off his first (and presumably, the last) Olympic win, complete with the gold medal. Reflecting on the unity that he saw and felt on the international stage, the 20x All-Star said, “I believe Kamala as the President could bring that unity back and continue to move us forward.”

Well, it’s clear that no one can dissuade Steph Curry from his belief in Kamala Harris. Not even the “inherent backlash” he hates so much.
