“I think it’s a challenge for us to just try to maintain confidence in what we’re doing, what we’re building. And until we run out of time, we have to maintain it.” Speaking out before the matchup against the Boston Celtics, Stephen Curry emphasized the need to not lose hope. A hard thing to do, since after an abysmal performance during the 2023-24 season, the Warriors repeat their past by currently standing on a 21-21 record.
Going from a 12-3 record to a .500 win percentage has now compelled the front office to bring up discussion about a potential change in the form of trades. Initially, some doubt creeped in on the Warriors’ front office and Stephen Curry having different viewpoints on which directions the trade talks should head. For now, however, the Three-Point Leader made his belief known that some action is better than no action.
ESPN reporter Ohm Youngmisuk recently put out a report on the ongoing mindset of the Warriors’ squad. Curry did not choose to mince words when he calls the current season an “emotional roller coaster”. The player himself continues to carry the team despite dealing with a throbbing thumb and knee pain. Despite it all, he does not mind putting in the effort. That is if it means that some worthwhile effort is made on the trade front.

“My hope is that [if there’s no action at the deadline], it’s not because of a lack of effort,” said Curry. “If we don’t have a chance to get better, my whole thing is I want to win, and whatever that means, all efforts are pointed towards that, then I can kind of live with whatever happens.”
These remarks by Curry came amidst a claim by an anonymous NBA executive. The same detailed how Joe Lacob and Mike Dunleavy were captured having a discussion, after the Warriors-Heat game. These meetings were described as not anything unusual. However, one out-of-the-blue change at that moment was, as the executive described, “They’re frustrated”. This would indicate that the front office would wish to make a trade as soon as possible. However, the executive also revealed that the Warriors may not choose to make any moves soon. That they may wait until they are closer to the trade deadline.
Any potential change, amongst the management, might have been because of Stephen Curry. After all, the point guard had earlier indicated not to act hastily. Since “Desperate trades or desperate moves that deplete the future, there is a responsibility on allowing or keeping the franchise in a good space and good spot when it comes to where we leave this thing when we’re done”. This meant that taking in a key player at the expense of a bunch of the Warriors’ young players should not be the solution.
The Warriors front office may have some major motivation behind going through trade offers, especially as anticipated by Stephen Curry. After all, as the anonymous source highlighted, the past few weeks have brought out the star player’s unusual side.
Steve Kerr highlighted how Stephen Curry is failing to hide his frustration now: “Struggling with the emotion of….”
Longtime fans of the Three-Point Leader would have come to recognize Stephen Curry as a walking image of calmness. Usually, anyone can be like that in front of Draymond Green. However, Curry is someone who is seldom seen having any on-court outbursts or unruly incidents with fans. Even during the Warriors’ poor run, he is holding patience. Despite this, very few can deny that the past few weeks have taken a toll on the player. In a way that indicates nothing is the same.
One of the most prominent instances of Curry’s mindset reaching a different point was seen during the Heat-Warriors game. A viral clip started making the rounds of social media, which captured Stephen Curry walking around. He was chewing some gum and possessing a reportedly “frustrated” and exasperated expression. Steve Kerr may have noticed this too. During the post-game presser, the Warriors HC stated “he is really struggling with the emotion of, you know, not being competitive right now. He probably hasn’t had to deal with this since his, I don’t know, his first couple (of) years in the league. So, he’s definitely struggling with it.”

The situation for the Bay Area franchise has not improved since that day, meaning that neither would have Curry’s mindset. Therefore, it’s up to the Warriors now to restore the scorer to his normal self by bringing on a change.
