Stephen Curry goes back to G-League to prepare for LeBron James and the Lakers

The  Golden State Warriors’  playoff aspirations were in jeopardy when Stephen Curry exited the floor on March 7th. Following that loss against the Chicago Bulls, the Dubs have been 2-1 since Steph’s ‘right ankle strain’. Now, the Dubs march to Crypto.com Arena to face the Los Angeles Lakers, who are just two games ahead of them. Despite possessing a roster with a lot of depth, Curry’s matchup against LeBron James is the key to these games.

With Curry injured, it could have leaned toward the Lake show. However, there’s still hope for the former MVP’s return and the reason is the G-League. According to a tweet on X by Jason Dumas, “Earlier this week, Rick Celebrini told Steph Curry that he’d like to see him get some live game reps before returning to action. Steph requested to scrimmage with the GLeague guys. What happened next was a day well spent, that benefitted all involved.”

So, Curry playing a scrimmage against the G-Leaguers might have a huge part to play if he indeed returns in the game against the Lakers. In fact, he may even stand a chance to overcome GSW’s closest playoff obstacle at the moment.

Will Stephen Curry Play Tonight?

According to the official injury report, Steph is listed as “questionable”. However, the former MVP will probably play tonight against the Lakers. Thanks to the scrimmage the probability of the 4 time NBA champion became even more concrete. Steve Kerr and Curry both gave positive indications to the media earlier prompting the speculation. This is comforting news to the Dubs since Draymond Green is also on the team’s injury report.

If Green ends up missing the game, the Warriors will rely on their number 30 more than ever to unlock the defensive core and ball movement of the team.  Stephen Curry averages about 22.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists against the Lakers, so it’s needless to state his importance. In addition to that, this season he is averaging 39 points against the Lakers on 44/49/100 shooting splits, scoring 47 in a loss and 32 in a victory against the division rivals. In the 41 times, Steph has battled the Lakers, he’s won 23 times to 18, so heading in to face LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the odds are in GSW’s favor.
