Is Stephen Curry's Paris glory enough to silence his critics, or does he still have more to prove?

Stephen Curry‘s first Olympic appearance did not go to waste playing alongside his former teammate and his longtime rival, LeBron James. This Olympic run is going to be a defining highlight in Curry’s career moving forward. Not only did he win a gold medal, but as the tournament approached its final rounds, the four-time champ proved why he is the greatest shooter of all time. However, Curry will soon be returning to the training camp as the upcoming regular season approaches. And things are not looking good for the Chef as well as the Warriors. But why is that?

Well, for starters, the Dubs will be playing without one of their players, Klay Thompson. Of course, this will impact the way Curry and Draymond Green run the offense, but with the newcomer, Buddy Hield, the franchise hopes that he’ll be able to fill Thompson’s spot.  Concerning the Warriors’ new talent around Steph, Kendrick Perkins sounded off on the franchise’s future. “Look, the moves that they made this offseason, they were popular, but they weren’t powerful. And I think right now if you look in the direction of Warriors are going in, they have a lot of trust in their player development. Obviously, looking at Podziemski with Kuminga and getting those guys better, you know, giving those guys more of a role on this team…”, said Perkins.

Yes, the Dubs have prioritized their younger assets, notably Podz and JK. The franchise is quite protective of these two, refusing to bring them near any trade talks, as recently seen with the Lauri Markkanen situation. But that being said, the Warriors still have their savior, Stephen Curry. And the Chef is looking to add a fifth ring under his name. Curry is 36 and is nearing the last few seasons of his career. Hopeful of another championship run, he is willing to put in the work as always. But then again, apart from Green and the youngsters, there is no notable asset alongside Steph. At this point, the Warriors will have to build a more experienced roster around Curry if they want to contend for the title in the next two or three seasons.

Stephen Curry hasn’t closed the door on his possible departure from the Bay

To put it into perspective, Game 4 of the 2022 NBA Finals saved the Warriors from never-ending criticism. Not only that, but it also pulled the franchise out of the Kevin Durant talks, as the Dubs managed to win a title without Durant following his departure. It seemed as if the Warriors were back in business. Two years later, they lost Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole, and other crucial assets. It is safe to say that things move quite rapidly and unexpectedly in the league.

Curry is well aware of the same and doesn’t seem to be fazed with his future. “I mean, I can clearly say I want to be a Warrior for life. It’s always been my goal, and I’m saying that sitting in this chair right now, but like you said, life, and especially life in the NBA, it is a wild environment, and things change quickly.”, said Curry following Thompson’s move to Dallas. Should this worry the front office? For the most part, it should.

In the last two years, the Warriors have faced a significant downfall in terms of performance. Be it on the court or managing the roster, things haven’t been so bright in the Bay. Stephen Curry still has a couple of seasons left on his contract. Come 2026, it will be interesting to see whether Steph decides to stay with the Warriors. Or, for the the first time in his career, put on a different uniform.
