Stephen Curry will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the greatest players to ever grace the hardwood. However, even the three-point shooting maestro was no match against the generational prospect, Victory Wembanyama. The 7’4″ Frenchman entered the league, touted as the next best thing to happen to the NBA and has lived up to his hype. He has the ball-handling agility of a point guard and blocks shots as if he were playing against the kids. The whole league witnessed the same when he faced off against the Baby-Faced Assassin in the San Antonio Spurs’ final pre-season fixture.

The 6? 2? guard tried to win a jump ball against the Spurs’ rookie center Victor Wembanyama, and, to put it mildly, failed miserably. However, he recently exposed the mastermind who set him up for the opening tip face-off.

Stephen Curry boasts a vast resume, filled with skills that some cannot even fathom. Yet, winning a jump ball against someone who is at least a foot taller is not among them. Wemby’s first experience with Stephen Curry started in a hilarious fashion. As the two crouched down before the opening tip, Curry appeared to be serious. However, the 2023 No. 1 overall pick quickly overpowered him and won the battle.

During a recent appearance on Dubs Talk, the Golden State Warriors point guard revealed the genius behind the move. To no one’s surprise, it was Steve Kerr who had planned it. “It came from coach [Steve Kerr],” said Curry when asked about the mastermind behind the decision. He further added, “I tried to keep it deadpan. I was laughing on the inside because I know I had no chance. But I was trying to scare him a little bit and see if I can meet him at the top and grab it.”

However, despite his best efforts, Victor’s monstrous size proved to be too big for him. Steph explained, “I timed it perfect. I gave it everything I had. But you can see in the picture on the top, he had an extra 8 inches of extension on me; I had no chance.”?

Why are the Spurs still struggling?

The Spurs had an abysmal last season, finishing at the bottom. However, this led them to win the Wembanyama sweepstakes. However, despite winning the lottery, they are worse than they were last season, with 22 wins. They have slumped to a seven-game losing streak after the Sacramento Kings rallied for a 129-120 victory against them.

The Spurs’ biggest struggle has been Victor’s inconsistency. While he is a great defensive player, blocking almost every shot that comes his way, he has been inconsistent offensively. This was honestly given since he is just a 19-year-old kid who is still getting acclimatized to the league.

ESPN analyst Zach Lowe revealed the root cause of his inconsistency. “The starting lineup has no shooting, no playmaking, no point guard. They are not setting him up to be super successful,” opined Lowe.

On the bright side, he said, “Once this guy gets in NBA shape, gets a better jumper, and gets teammates who just go ‘oh all we got to do is throw the ball like up and he’s going to catch it and dunk it’. It’s going to be a problem for the rest of the league defensively.”
