Curry's respect for Chinese traditions: A genuine gesture or a smart business move?

Stephen Curry has been having a blast in China! The Chef has thousands of fans crowding him wherever he goes. So much so that Xi’an officials had to cancel Curry’s event due to thousands of fans waiting outside the hotel, hours before Steph’s arrival. Nevertheless, Curry continues to enjoy his time in China exploring the culture and interacting with his fans following the opening of the first-ever Curry brand store.

Quite recently, Steph tried making his first mooncake in Shanghai. Curry will be going around the country promoting his brand, but he also seems fond of indulging in the culture. Making mooncakes doesn’t come easy for some people, but watching Steph attempt to make his first, he seemed to have got the hang of it. Mooncakes include a meat filling, typically a dried sausage along with salt, sugar, cooking oil, jam, and other ingredients.

If anything, Steph enjoyed the process saying, “That’s nice! Solid, right?”. As the Tour travels to Shanghai, Steph has yet another surprise for his fans in China. The surprise is none other than a second store opening in Xi’an. Now, the first store opening was held in a brand new mall in Chengdu. But as the events in Xi’an are canceled, the Curry brand tour will continue to other cities. Originally, the tour featured six cities that Steph and Fox were to visit.

Well, waiting fans can cross Xi’an off the list for now. On the other hand, the store opening exceeded quite the expectations. Firstly, the store is spread across 3300 square feet. The store also features a ‘Curry Tour’ pack that includes a pair of Curry 12, Curry 4, Curry 6 Flotro, and Curry 1 Flotro. Its location in a brand new mall is perfect to kick off the chain of Curry brand stores in China. It is safe to say that Steph’s popularity in China is at an all-time level.

Have an interesting take?

Of course, Kobe Bryant‘s influence in the East was unmatched. However, over a decade later, Stephen Curry has made the case for having a much greater influence in China. Also, the fact that the city officials had to cancel one of his events due to overcrowding says a lot about the love he receives from his Chinese fans. Curry has made several China tours in the past. Although at the time, Steph wasn’t as popular as he is now.

Besides, the Chef is now a four-time champ and also registered an Olympic Gold under his name. Curry’s influence will continue to grow as he progresses further into his career. It will be interesting to see Steph interact with his fans for the rest of his tour as the pre-season dates loom around the corner. What are your thoughts on Curry brand’s first-ever retail store in China? Let us know in the comments.
