For a second straight year, Stephen A. Smith went home without any hardware from the Ruffles All-Star Celebrity game. After weeks of banter leading up to the moment, Shannon Sharpe finally put all debates to rest with a convincing 100-91 victory. While SAS is definitely salty about losing, what has him even more enraged is the false narrative surrounding the ankle injury he sustained before the game.

After Smith was missing from Friday’s episode of “First Take,” ESPN Host Molly Qerim revealed the reason behind his absence. She explained that Smith had to take a trip to the hospital after Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons crossed him over during a shootout.

SAS then tried to push back on Qerim’s report, accusing her of “fabricating stories” about him. He went on a rant, saying, “You see that’s what Molly does, that’s what Molly Querim does. She fabricates stories, she makes stuff up, she’s always sensationalizing stuff, and it’s always to make me look bad.”

He then cleared the air on getting his ankles broken by Parsons, stating, “I did not get crossed over by Micah Parsons. I ain’t get crossover by any damn body because I wasn’t playing no defense. I wasn’t in front of anybody. I wasn’t competing. I was just shooting around.” So, if he did not get crossed while defending Parsons, how did he get injured?

Stephen A. Smith clears the air on his ankle injury

As per Smith’s account of the event, during practice on Thursday, Parsons was “going up and beating up on everybody,” which led to them talking smack to each other, and before they knew it, they were on the court having a shooting contest. Now this is where it all went downhill for him. While taking a jump shot, he stepped on “sweat” and slipped, sending his feet flying in the air. All this he blames on his Christian Louboutin shoes, which betrayed him once again. It is the same footwear he was sporting when he bounced his first pitch at Yankee Stadium last fall.

Last time, too, he almost embarrassed himself on live television as he was about to fall face down when he stepped on the mound because of his choice of shoes. “I should have known not to take the same sneakers with the vicinity of a basketball court. I didn’t. Fool me once shame on you. But as George W. Bush, our former president, once said, fool me twice, you can fool me again. That’s what happened. That’s the truth. Not what Molly threw out there,” concluded Smith.

While he did embarrass himself with the fall, the only silver lining was the “Bred Reimagined” Air Jordan 4 he received from Michael Jordan so that Smith wouldn’t injure himself again.
