“They want me to be mindful. I’m not going to go on the air and not give a damn about how Disney feels about something. I’m not irresponsible. But I am my own man,” Smith told the Los Angeles Times. Smith made it clear he’s no “prisoner” to Disney. “There are other ways to prosper. I am not a prisoner to the ESPN/Walt Disney family,” he said a few months ago. He’s making it known that he’s not held back by any constraints, even while dealing with his role in the ESPN and Disney world. He’s all about staying true to himself and not letting anyone hold him down. Additionally, he has other opportunities available if ESPN decides to part ways with him.

Also, He recently hinted that news outlets have reached out to him about a regular role, but kept the specifics under the wrap.
“Obviously, it’s something I love doing,” Smith said. “Sports will always be my No. 1 priority. As long as ESPN wants me here and wants me to do ‘First Take,’ I’m happy to do that. But outside of that, whatever opportunity presents itself is something I’m willing to entertain.”
Even with all the news channels chasing him, Stephen A. Smith is sticking with his true love: sports. He’s still all about dropping fiery takes and getting into heated debates.
