A loyal DNC supporter, Stephen Curry has been vocal in his support of fellow Oaklander, Kamala Harris, and her presidential campaign. But a major agenda of Vice President Harris is affordable housing. In a speech last week in Raleigh, N.C., she reiterated the need for lower housing costs pointing out the reality of the same. “There’s a serious housing shortage. In many places, it is too difficult to build, and it’s driving prices up.”

Given Curry’s support of VP Harris, it wouldn’t be too far an assumption that he would support this, too, right? However, an instance from 2023 involving the Warriors superstar might raise a few eyebrows regarding this. In mid-January 2023, the Bay Area native and his wife, Ayesha Curry, sent a letter to the California town council opposing the development of multifamily housing facilities.

One of the major concerns the 4x champion raised in the letter was “safety and privacy”. For celebrities and athletes, these two factors rank at the top of their list when choosing a location for their homes, naturally. You wouldn’t want to open your door early morning to find a crowd of fans and reporters jam-packed and hoping for a glimpse, photo, or a statement. So, yes, it’s understandable. But will this clash with VP Harris’s views?

How might this affect the standing between Steph and Kamala?

With the Harris candidacy looking more realistic and the 59-year-old being a huge advocate for affordable housing during her tenure as a senator and vice president, it does leave many with more questions than answers as to how one of her biggest endorsers might very well be against the idea. There is no doubt that if Harris is successful, her hometown and California in general would get special attention regarding this.

Take, for example, this proposal: A “tax incentive for homebuilders who build starter homes sold to first-time homebuyers.” This will bring great relief to California. And why is that? According to J.T. Harechmak, senior policy manager at the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California, Governor Gavin Newsom’s 2025 budget just cut $152.5 million in funding for CalHome. It’s a program aimed at affordable owner-occupied homes. Hence, this tax incentive will surely help a lot of people.

But if these projects get close to Curry’s property, there is a very good likelihood of a clash of views. Along with the wealthy residents of Atherton, he had become the most prominent member of the ‘NIMBY (Not In My Backyard)’ crowd. Despite being supportive of Kamala Harris, it really will be interesting to see how the father of four will react if such an incident does happen.

Considering it’s something only the parties involved can answer, the only thing left to do is wait it out. For now, though, Stephen Curry is all-in for Kamala Harris as the next president.

Stephen Curry believes VP Kamala Harris can bring unity back and formally endorses her

It really wasn’t a surprise when the Olympic rookie’s face appeared in a video message shared Thursday at the DNC. Wearing a simple blue t-shirt with ‘United States’ written on it and the shiny new gold medal around his neck, Stephen Curry detailed why he supported Kamala Harris’ presidency. “What a great honor was it to represent Team USA and go out and win that gold medal this summer,” he said.

“That unity on and off the court reminded us that together we can do all things and continue to inspire the world. That’s why I believe that Kamala as president can bring that unity back and continue to move our country forward. This is about preserving hope and belief in our country. Making sure families can be taken care of in their most precious times,” he added.

When Harris visited Las Vegas for official business, she made sure to take some time off her busy schedule to meet the men representing the USA-B in the Olympics. Needless to say, the occasion was one of joy and inspiration. But perhaps what stood out was the carefree interaction between two Oaklanders – standing a little away from the crowd and engaged in deep conversation, catching up with each other in the short time afforded to them.

This might surprise first-time viewers, but the Curry faithful know that this is just a typical Monday for the 10x All-Star. After all, Steph and his close relationship with the ex-POTUS, Barack Obama and his complete support of Joe Biden (endorsing him in 2020) and Kamala Harris provide enough explanation for the comfortable interaction we saw then.

Well, reading a little into what he said about families being ‘taken care of in their most precious times,’ maybe Harris’ pledge to build 3 million homes and rentals in her first 4-year term might see Steph in the forefront. Thoughts?
