Amid his purple patch, Charles Barkley took the case of Steph Curry. The Golden State Warriors superstar set aside his off-season duties and set out on an important national duty. However, the NBA legend doesn’t seem to be happy about it. Barkley, 61, finally made his mark at the 2024 American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Lake Tahoe. Usually known for his poor golfing skills, Barkley surprised every celebrity at the tournament, recording his best-ever performance.

The Phoenix Suns legend joined ESPN’s Sports Center live for a quick chat, amid his success. Hannah Storm, the host, asked Barkley about Steph’s absence at the tournament. Notably, the Dubs superstar is the defending champion of the celebrity championship. Who can forget his hole-in-one from last year that left the golfing world stunned?

However, Chuck disregarded all of that, and hilariously said, “First of all, Steph Curry, he’s a coward. He’s ducking me. Can you believe he knew I was going to play my best round ever? That’s why he’s going to use some lame lame excuse like the Olympics to duck me?”

Nevertheless, after his sarcastic run down at Curry, Barkley sincerely said, “There’s no better sporting event in the world than the Olympics. I’ve been I was so lucky and blessed to go to the Olympics twice. There’s nothing better than the Olympics. And represent your country… They obviously heavily favored. I just hope they bring the gold home.” The Suns legend was part of the iconic ‘Dream Team’ alongside LeBron James, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson. So, it’s a given that Chuck knows a thing or two about representing the nation with an overpowered team.

Currently, Stephen Curry & Co. is in Abu Dhabi gearing up for 2 exhibition games. They will later head to London for two other exhibition games before finally reaching the Paris Olympics.

Chronicles of Charles Barkley and his golfing skills

Every avid follower of Inside Guys would be aware of Charles Barkley’s golfing skills. Especially after the viral video of the legend swinging the golf club. He had a forced lag in his swing, which left him barely making any contact on the ball.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Charles Barkley right to call Steph Curry a coward for skipping the Paris Olympics?

Have an interesting take?

Speaking of the trolls, Chuck once said, “Is my golf swing really all that interesting to be such a hot topic?… I see all the joking that goes around and hear it from my friends on the course. But I say, let them talk. Improving my swing was something I wanted to do for myself. It didn’t have anything to do with what was being said about me on the internet, I don’t care about that.” However, all that came with the help of Stan Utley, a professional golfer.

It certainly has paid him dividends. After failing miserably in almost every edition of the Celebrity Golf Championship, Chuck finally made an impact. He currently holds the 48th position after the end of the second round out of the 90 celebrity golfers. Speaking of his performance, he said, “I’ve been looking forward to this tournament ever since the last couple of years I’ve been getting better. Today was my best round ever and I’m excited for the entire weekend. Shout out to my coach Stan Utley.” The sports will have a lot to look forward to in the coming days.
