It’s been three years since Steph Curry signed a 4-year deal worth $215 million. And now, it’s about time that the Warriors give a thought to an extension. Surprisingly, Warriors fans will get more of Steph’s action after the greatest shooter of all time signed a one-year veteran extension. This extension will keep Curry through the 2026-27 season. Regardless, this one-year extension is not only breaking news for the league but also for American sports.
Steph Curry’s one-year extension is worth $62.6 million. This will be the first time that an American team-sport athlete will make over $60 million in a single season! In other highlights of this major signing, Curry is set to make $178 million in the next three years with just his contract. As of now, Curry’s net worth is listed at $102 million according to Forbes. With this recent contract extension and his endorsement deals and investments, the number will surely rise before the Chef calls it a year.

But the interesting facts behind this deal don’t end there. Steph Curry’s career earnings cross the $500 million mark after this extension. The only other players who will finish their playing career having made over half a billion dollars in on-court earnings are Kevin Durant and LeBron James. While the franchise can feel relieved having Steph for another year, it also puts a lot of pressure on the front office.
On the bright side, the Warriors have successfully aligned Steph’s remaining tenure with Draymond Green, whose contract will also end in the same summer. But as great of a decision as this was, the franchise must utilize it in full glory. How can they do that? A simple answer would be adding useful assets and possibly a star player alongside Steph. Recently Curry averaged 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists while shooting 45% from the field.
But this was all the highlight the Warriors could use going into the Play-In tournament. The young guns, Podz and JK have shown great potential, still, the Warriors are not exactly on the contenders’ end for the upcoming season. Luckily, the Warriors will have some flexibility next offseason with a projected cap space of around $56 million to work with. With that amount along with a few draft picks, the Dubs can land a reliable 3-and-D player.

Curry is hopeful of a championship run in the coming years. And after his recent extension, it sure has to be with the Warriors. But at the end of the day, a lot of things have to be perfectly aligned. Thompson is no longer a Warrior, they lost Jordan Poole last year, and at this point have high hopes for their younger assets. Podz and JK are reliable players for the team’s future, but that won’t be enough for the Warriors next season.

The Warriors might just have to pull a few strings in the upcoming regular season. Until then, the Warriors might have to go small-ball. With Steph, Green, Podz, JK, and their newest addition, Buddy Hield, the Dubs are hopeful of a strong start. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see the front office structure the roster optimally. What are your thoughts on Steph Curry’s one-year extension?
