Well, it has been a rather rough week for the Spurs. Obviously, the biggest blow was Gregg Popovich getting sidelined due to an undisclosed health issue. Then, just a couple of days later, Jeremy Sochan fractured his thumb during the Clippers game. Moreover, the team has lost two of their last four games. Sure enough, the Spurs fans were desperately looking for a ray of hope to turn things around. And they have finally got it in the form of a returning Devin Vassell. As expected, Victor Wembanyama was hyped about it.
Yes, Vassell is set to make his season debut this Saturday against the Jazz. And Wemby could not wait to get his teammate back amid this difficult stretch, “Just really, really happy… It is just going to be a pleasure seeing him having fun with us again. And, of course he’s going to be a major part of our story, so we can’t wait to get back to getting better together.”

Devin could be back as soon as Saturday, and Wemby can’t wait: “Just really, really happy…It is just going to be a pleasure seeing him having fun with us again. And, of course he’s going to be a major part of our story, so we can’t wait to get back to getting better together.”

This is amazing news for the Spurs because Devin was their second leading scorer last season, averaging 19.5 points. Obviously, Wemby was the first with 21.4 points. And with both their leading scorers together, the Spurs could do some serious damage in the West. Well, Vassell provides them with more spacing as he is a decent deep range shooter with a career efficiency of 36.9%.

Unfortunately, he had been out with a stress fracture in his right foot. But a surgery during the offseason and months of rehab has allowed him to recover completely and return to action. And it will be interesting to see how he operates with Chris Paul driving the offense.

While Vassell’s return has given the Spurs a major sigh of relief, there are still some key pieces on the injury report. Well, they suffered another blow tonight as Malaki Branham left the game mid-way because of a right ankle injury. And he was looking in great form as he had scored seventeen points before getting injured. But his health is now a concern for the upcoming encounter as he could not finish tonight’s game.

Meanwhile, Tre Jones is also out with an ankle issue and is unlikely to play on Saturday. Obviously, Sochan will not make it to the floor either anytime soon as he underwent surgery this week to repair the fractured thumb. And there is still no update on Coach Pop’s return. Mitch Johnson continues to be the interim coach in Popovich’s absence.
Although Vassell is back, the Spurs have a lot to figure out going forward as they hope to have a successful season after finishing as the bottom two seed last year.
